eracode: A little off topic but related: I have often wondered about the situation where employees who do large amounts of international business travel are able to rack up huge volumes of Air Points Dollars and then use them to take expensive overseas personal holidays with their spouse/partner with 'free' airfares. The APD's are paid for by the employer and used tax-free by the employee. Often the original business travel is done in Business Class which generates high levels of APD's. My understanding is that all this does not attract Fringe Benefit Tax and I could never figure out why.

Some work places make you turn over or use your airpoints for work travel (or at least they used) Fletcher Challenge did this,

A lot of employees travel in their own time and don't get paid for it  so airpoints should be a perk of the job..

Yea its a bummer. I want to drive into work, public transport just does not suit me. I like the flexability of a car.

Maybe Wellington will start building business parks out in the suburbs one of these days. Wellington could do with a few business parks around the greater Porirua area.

Rather than dicking around the edges IRD ought to be really focusing on "charitable Trusts". For example, Sanitarium (makers of Marmite and Weetbix) don't pay tax and their surplus goes to the 7th Day Adventists.

Sure, as long as they are happy to give us tax credits if we are doing BYOD.

You mean the government.  The IRD don't set the rules the politicians do.
