andrewNZ: I bank with Westpac, and I've had mostly excellent service. Whenever we've wanted service it's been available and usually top notch. Overall, I'm very happy.
The only issue I've struck was nothing more than an incompetent staff member.
I managed to get 30 mins free and went in to get a personal loan, even though I specifically asked for a personal loan, the fool serving me spent 15 mins organising paperwork to top up a mortgage I didn't have. I finally worked it out when she told me I'd need the wifes signature. I walked out in disgust and went to a different branch the next day. They were excellent AND they were fully aware of the issues I'd had the day before.
Like every industry, most of it is down to the staff serving you.
