Yabanize: Do Taxi companies care that drivers are using their branded cabs for uber?

They take the signs off then doing uber. Only thing that gave it away in a couple I have been in was their rooftop sign in the boot.

No they are generally magnetic signs from what I have seen.

It's always been the lower tier taxi company drivers I have had as uber but they have all been good examples of taxis. Not like when you call discount taxis or cheap caps or whatever as a friend insists on doing.

Is what Uber offers in some way legally different from a taxi service?  How else do they dodge the various rules and regs, airport charges etc?

I see the taxi federation complaining, but of course they would.  I don't think they need to be concerned about Uber getting much commercial work.

I travel for work every week and I have charge cards and apps for two national taxi brands.  I never pay a boosted price anywhere when it's busy and I never have to hand over my $ then claim back from work.  Prompt app based booking suits me as does being able to walk up to a taxi rank.  I imagine this is the same for most business travellers.

Would I use Uber privately?  In theory yes, in practice I would probably not often be organised enough.

In many respects Uber represents an alternative - i.e. choice to consumers which at the end of the day can be a good thing. If your business requires certain invoicing requirements and/or agreements with existing contracts then it is still there. Uber does not take anything away from that. My last trip didn't involve uber because there were no cabs available at 4 in the morning. So taxi's have an edge there regardless of price

Why do you make that assumption? Uber has become very big for corporate work in many countries, particularly the US.

Uber Taxi could be seen as a big threat to the Taxi federation - while taxi federation members will still get the work, they (and the member Taxi companies that own Taxicharge) don't get to clip the ticket on the way with their charge card.
