ASB and Co-Operative Bank both have really good apps. Clean, easy to use, and both allow you to block cards/change card details easily.

ASB not bad although their recent vastly expensive All Black's sponsorship seemed like an unnecessary indulgence.

It's caused me to start the process of moving banks.

sbiddle: Does any other bank other than ANZ let you change your PIN number from internet banking or the app?

+1 I agree, I was impressed with ANZ at this feature

And soon ANZ will have HCE to allow an android phone to be used a credit card without Semble, anyhow got any update on when they is to be released

btw I use ANZ and Kiwibank [the later tend to have better and more competitive rates]

code15: I switched from Kiwibank to ANZ this year.

The only thing I'm just not getting used to is ANZ's transitions not being real-time.

i.e. eftpos transactions don't process over the weekend, visa debit authorisations don't show up, paying someone doesn't take the money out of your account until the transaction processes (at 10-11pm).. Irrationally annoyed at this aspect of ANZ's banking system

I don't think it's irrational to be annoyed about the lack of real time transactions, that would drive me crazy.

I do not pay them bank charges to sponsor ball games.

They could charge customers less instead. The sponsorship is a conspicuous statement that they have too much money.

pretty much every bank sponsors something.

if a 10 million sponsorship deal would mean you would end up paying like 1c less a year for something

Most residential customers are a very very very very tiny part of their business.

A rescue helicopter is useful. A rugby team is a waste of money.

think of the exposure and advertising they get out of it.

They wouldnt do it if they didnt think it was worth their while

ANZ are good to me.  I like their app, and always get excellent service.

Auckland Savings Bank Bank, I am just about to close my last account with due to poor (slow unhelpful/apathetic) in branch service and also tautology in their name.

I'm not suggesting it isn't. Merely that I see no need to contribute to what I regard as wholly unnecessary advertising.

On a slightly wider note, given that there are only 4.5 million people here, the amount of bank advertising seems somewhat excessive really. Anyone would think people swap banks every six months or so...!

That same bank also sponsors the Auckland Nines and a whopping great big stadium in Wellington used for a lot of ball-sports, mind you.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

A further waste of money then.

Imagine, for example, what they could do it they used the same money to do something for all these children living in poverty we are told about regularly. A bank alleviating poverty. Now there's an idea.
