But its a shame nobody came up with a better name than "Dollar" for the shiny new decimalised currency. :-)

Oh there were all sorts of wanky names put forward. Thank goodness logic prevailed and we went Dollars and cents..

Is there a list maybe somewhere? I would be fun to read if it was similar flag change proposals...

There was much public discussion about what to call the new currency. Names suggested included ‘crown’, ‘fern’, ‘tūi’, ‘Kiwi’ and ‘zeal’. In the end, New Zealand followed Australia and settled on ‘dollar’.

I had a paper run back in 1967, in the days when the paper delivery kids still had to collect money for the deliveries - house to house on a fortnightly basis (I guess it was cheaper than setting up an actual subscription invoicing system).

I recall I got issued with decimal coins about a week in advance of the cutover day, so that I was giving change in the new currency. I recall that a lot of my customers just wanted to see what the coins looked like even if they didn't require change.
