Will have to read the fine print about fees, I saw another thread here regarding high fees, but, not sure if that is only if you use it (as opposed to activating it).
The fee structure is quite complicated I have to say...
However, it boils down to a monthly inactivity fee of $1.95 if you don't load more than the equivalent of NZ$500 into your various wallets. For me, that would be most of the time, however it adds up to only $23.40 per year, which I figure is a small price to pay for the convenience.
This week I used the card to top up my Airpoints by $12 so I could buy some domestic flights worth $391. Otherwise, the bulk of my Airpoints would have sat unused for many more months as I didn't have quite enough. I think this is a great initiative on Air NZ's part by allowing customers to get more value from their relationship with the airline, as well as having the ability to lock-in foreign currency purchases at favourable rates e.g. the Euro or Pound at present
