The fee structure is quite complicated I have to say...

However, it boils down to a monthly inactivity fee of $1.95 if you don't load more than the equivalent of NZ$500 into your various wallets. For me, that would be most of the time, however it adds up to only $23.40 per year, which I figure is a small price to pay for the convenience.

This week I used the card to top up my Airpoints by $12 so I could buy some domestic flights worth $391. Otherwise, the bulk of my Airpoints would have sat unused for many more months as I didn't have quite enough. I think this is a great initiative on Air NZ's part by allowing customers to get more value from their relationship with the airline, as well as having the ability to lock-in foreign currency purchases at favourable rates e.g. the Euro or Pound at present

Probably less if you have no balance, because it's not charged.

just watch what your monthly anniversary date is

BNZ had my date of activation 2 weeks earlier than when I actually did activate

took me about 10 minutes of arguing on the phone to get the $1.95 refunded

would've cost them way more than 1.95 speaking to the operator then escalating to their manager etc

Good news is I can activate the card on the phone (0800 onesmart)
Bad news is I still can't access the website.

I just sat on the phone with them. They have a list of my security questions (I guess from Air NZ, because I never entered any for OneSmart) and what I'm giving it matches (they are case sensitive apparently).

Somehow the system doesn't believe me.

I have got mine activated and the pin setup almost without a hitch
I am a Global Plus customer so I went that way for activation but I had problems logging in to set my pin as I made a spelling mistake when setting up the security questions.

But with all that sorted out I have not had an issues getting it activated and setup.

We all have the same surname, so who knows how they decided to release them.

Yes, I am a Gold member and got mine first, but the other 2 received pre Xmas are just the basic Airpoints membership.

My wife got her's before christmas, same basic membership as mine. Not like my name starts with Z either.

Looks like the guy/girl running this mess won't be getting their bonus!

My card arrived today. Features look pretty good, but the fee structure is overly complex, and ambiguous in my opinion. And no mention of monthly fees until you reach page 14 of the booklet

Load the card and you get charged $1, plus $2 a month. Unless you loaded $500+, in which case no $2 fee that month, just every month thereafter. Unless you spend it all to zero, or the fees wipe out your balance.

But if you do spend the balance then you get charged $2 per month inactivity fee instead (after 3 months)! But deducted from any foreign balances instead (!). If you have no foreign balance then... er, no fee perhaps, or something else?

Or activate it and never load it with cash and no charges apply..? Or does that inactivity fee apply for inactivity..?!

The banks make enough money on the balances kicking around on these cards, why do they need to charge any monthly/annually fee on top!

I wanted to have the limit increased to $25,000, and the page at https://www.onesmart.co.nz/upgradeaccount says:

"If you are a current BNZ Internet banking customer, you can submit a secure message via the BNZ Internet Banking site. Simply provide the following information, and BNZ and OneSmart will take it from there."

The information required is airpoints number, post code and last digits of OneSmart card.

I've contacted BNZ to have my limit increased, and got no reply. Contacted OneSmart help desk who told me I have to go to a branch - completely different from what their website says.

*le sigh*

Just got a phone call regarding my request to increase limits via BNZ Internet Banking. After two weeks and no reply from BNZ I got put a complaint to OneSmart help desk. It appears BNZ wasn't talking to OneSmart and things were being lost.

It seems they have fixed this now.

Cool .. So the air points wording is the magnetic strip? Or there is no magnetic strip? Don't want to look dumb when attempting to respond to "do you have a fly buys card?"

They use the barcode for the FlyBuys.
