I have refrained from comment until now but I feel there is need for another perspective. After my retirement I moved from ANZ to Kiwibank. At the time I was fed up with ANZ fees for everything. Having come from Europe, I found ANZ to be fee obsessed. They charged for every fart and sneeze. I got sick of it.
I have had a wonderful experience with Kiwibank. I absolutely love them. They were able to provide exactly the service I wanted, and because I am a pensioner, no fees! I used to do a lot of my banking by phone and they were always extremely helpful. I have never had an issue of any kind with them.
Having said that, I should add that my banking needs are minimal. I have a deposit account with them that my pension is paid into and a separate transaction account linked to my debit card. From time to time I ring or drop by to transfer money as I need it. I am older and somewhat old-fashioned and my security, which is the best there is, consists of limiting the balance in the Now account. In the worst possible circumstance, I could never lose more than a few hundred dollars, usually less. I prefer to pay cash for most of my shopping but the card is useful if I run short or want to buy something on-line. It is a system that has worked well for me for several years.
Kiwibank may well be hell on earth for anything more complicated than simple in and out transactions, but I have always had excellent service from them and I would not consider any other bank. They are great for us old folks.
