Canstar have a comparison thing. Used it a few years ago when comparing cards. Wasn't always 100% accurate but was a decent initial guide.

I'm pretty sure that my Kiwibank Visa Debit Card (which I've had for 9 years) charges a whopping 5% fee on top of the Official Visa exchange rate for overseas purchases! (It isn't itemised as a fee on the statement, but the total on the statement always appears to be about 5% up on what I was expecting to pay - which is pretty shocking if true).

I tried to get a Kiwibank Zero Mastercard middle of last year, as Mastercard typically have slightly better foreign purchase rates (and the Kiwibank Zero MC was highly rated), but found out when I applied, that Kiwibank had just discontinued the Zero Mastercard a few days ealier (at the end of June 2019). So this change at Kiwibank has been coming for a while if they are still just notifying existing customers of the wholesale change to Visa.

We got a low fees Visa from Kiwibank in July last year so it's definitely been coming for a while.

Is there a reputable credit card comparison product around in NZ?

Not that I've ever found, providers seem much more competitive overseas where population density probably helps with providing better enticements/points/rewards etc...

As someone who lives offshore I'd say that the credit card market in different countries is quite different. The premium market in NZ isn't as strong, probably because customers don't want to pay the fees. I work a churn strategy on my cards to avoid paying fees but if you don't you will pay up to nzd$1000 a year for an ultra premium card.

The Air New Zealand credit cards have one very unusual feature - you earn status points as well as Airpoints. This isn't that common internationally although some cards will automatically give you good status which is even better.

Related to my earlier statement about looking at options. both ANZ and Amex are offering AirPoints rewards at the moment for an eligble spend within the first three months (300 APD and 400 APD respectively). If you signed up for both and made the eligible spend(s), would you get both rewards? Is it the CC provider or AirNZ that provides the incentive?

You would get both. The promo is by the card issuer not AirNZ.
But if you apply for two cards so soon after another it would leave a bit of a mark on your credit report assuming both do a hard pull

That's good to know, I expected it was the issuer but wondered if they were tied in with the AirNZ side a bit closer.

We have been with BNZ Visa since I can remember, Everything goes through our credit card in revolving credit. Every 12 months we get the standard do you want to increase your credit limit blah blah.

Never had any issues with it and because its a branch off our business there are no fees etc. To be honest I did not even know they did MasterCard.
