deltadelta: Good. I could never understand why Bonus Bonds weren't thought of as a form of gambling.

It was gambling. It was the only thing you could do outside of the TAB, which was Bad because that really was gambling, until Lotto came along.

I put in a request to withdraw my bonds after the September draw; got the funds on the 4th

I think I started with $1000 around 1990 thanks to my mother; I reinvested all the winnings and ended up with $1465. I was really hoping to get to $1500..

I am not going to try and think about what a "poor investment" it was ...

I can help you with that, and its not a nice answer....

I remember Bonus Bonds were thought of as a form of investment, while the Golden Kiwi was the only non-TAB gambling vice for the average Kiwi household back in the day...

It looks like holding on was the wise thing to do - better return rate than in a bank -

So the $20 my parents got for me in 1993 turns into $22 in 2021. Still, better the $2 be in my pocket I suppose.

I actually haven't done too badly. I had enough invested that I won $20 most months and the extra payout will cover some of the rest. I doubt I would have done much better with bank interest.

Got my refund into the bank today:-  10 %  return, tax free.

Not as good as the annual return on an investment in residential housing but then there were not many houses for $10,020  back in 2020.
