Pooluser is your wallet ID which is the ID your miner should be sending the coins to. At about 3 XPM, the pool at beeeeer.org will credit your wallet.

it looks like Digital Ocean and to a lesser extent VPSnine are now throttling the CPU performance on their VPS's to combat miners...

After using both for a few weeks I can say it's possible the number of miners has reached a critical mass. There are no shortage of $5 VPSs out there.

Nah, scratch that. I took half my minions offline for maintenance and while that was happening, this happened:

4048 15.12. 7:05 18.85 +0.3893 0.6043

So it's still working fine, I guess there is an element of luck - you may be on a physical host with many other miners, bad time of day, saturated pool etc. That's why I originally said, and still maintain - leave it to run for a few days, possibly a week before you make any changes.

My maintenance today is to compile the latest miner and split my miners between both beeeeer pools.

Did a bit of testing over the weekend with some interesting results. On my server (dual xeon, quad core) I have 5 Ubuntu VM's running configured as originally posted by gundar (thanks by the way). The total number of primes/s that I get across all VM's is approx 2000 - 2200 and total cpu use on the physical server is approx 20%.

Now I turned those all off and ran the windows primeminer client on the server itself i.e. not virtualised and configured it to use all 8 cores. CPU usage went to %100 on the server however primes/s remained around 2000 - 2200.

It suggests that there is something stopping me from getting any more primes/s than approx 2200 but I have no idea what it could be.

Also from the link below it seems like the difficulty has just gone up

On a more amusing note I spun up 5 VM's at home on my i5 3570 machine. Left it running in the study and forgot all about it for a couple of hours. When I came back the room was like a sauna and the fans on my pc were running full bore. Will probably just keep the home machine to 2 VM's to keep the heat under control but could be useful for winter :)

Don't forget to setup the client to use all the processors/cores/threads.

Even on a simple HT computer, I get 150PPS with two threads whereas without HT enabled and the client running on one processor, I get 130PPS. Not a significant advantage, but one, nonetheless.

-genproclimit=[threads-to-use]

You can experiment with this vlue, but leave it running a few hours to get a better idea of the average.

I have just started running pooled XPM mining on a old 4 core i5 desktop. I am getting about 1000 primes/s. So far on http://xpm.syware.de/?a=. I have 2 entries +0.0013 for a balance of 0.0025. It's been running just over an hour.

So my rate is 0.0043 XPM/h.

Does this seem ok? I don't know what to expect?

Like any kind of trending exercise, until there is a reasonable history, the numbers will look bad. 1000PPS seems okay, let it run for a day and then have a look.

Here's an explanation of the change in difficulty settings and why, despite all the changes, I still get about the same XPM/h.

Hopefully somebody can take this to the next level - how to mine profitably with CPUs - is it worth tweaking or should we all wait for a GPU option?

I don't feel I have enough in depth code knowledge to lead a discussion on that.

My 8 core hardware server worked less than average at ypool. I changed it to beeeeer today and will publish some figures once the numbers have settled.

Hi

I have been mining since earlier today and upped my mining machines with 2x 8 core VPS machines.

I still am struggling with the distinction between pool mining and solo mining.

My rate is currently 0.0061 XPM/h and in 10 hours, I have 0.0628 XPM.

So 0.1256 XPM per day, at this rate, 1 XPM will take me 7.9 days.

Just on my main (non VPS) machine I am getting 0.042 chains/day. according to the client.

If I look at the mining calculator: http://anty.info/primecoin-calculator/

It tells me I can make a block every 26.13 days for 0.375 XPM per day:

0.042 26.13 days 0.37569303 XP
If that were true then I would be better off moving all 3 machines to solo mining since a single machine would beat the whole 3 pool mining.

If I use that calculator and include the 2 VPS machines (2x 0.06 chains per day):

Sum: 0.162 6.77 days 1.44910167 XPM
It says the average time to find a block would be 6.77 days and average XPM of 1.44 per day!

Am I seriously missing something, is that calculation completely wrong? I know there is still some luck involved, but it looks seriously better than pool mining?

I can confirm that the XPM/h has dropped off this evening in my wallet and despite me adding more cores, it seems to be dropping more. There are some (to my limited knowledge) possible factors:

Difficulty has been adjusted as confirmed in a previously posted Reddit thread.

The wallet log is not working as it should?

We are compiling software form source, maybe there is a newer version?

Primecoin is new - maybe we have reached a saturation point of new users?

My 8 core server has been very far from 8 x my single core servers, so perhaps there is a ceiling?

I looked at setting up a private mining pool and found a lot of incomplete information. Perhaps somebody could investigate this and write a post?

Meanwhile, I found a new client that only works with ypool, am busy documenting it up now and should be done by the weekend. I'd like to see the gains in my wallet log and compare the differences before today to when I am completely migrated.
