Perhaps those who so strenuously objected to my satirical poke at the Minister will cast their discerning approval on this piece, which pretty much says the same thing I tried to, but does it much better. Perhaps it is also worth pointing out that my original post has in fact succeeded quite well at provoking a serious discussion of this subject, so mocking Brownlee's appetite and exercise regime may have served a purpose after all.

if you believe that a person's image is par of the argument then perhaps you can post your photo so we can include everything that is wrong with how you look in the discussion.  And no because a person is a politican doesn't mean you attack their weight issue.  Attack their policies and everything that they publicly stand for but you turn to a bully when you attack a person on how they look.

I wasn't attacking him for how he looks. I was attacking him for threatening to withdraw funding from Christchurch because of his sulk at the city's parking policy.

As for Wilsons, there is a simple solution if you don't appreciate the "service" they are offering. Basic economics would suggest they see no need to improve their parking lots, so unless people stop using them nothing will change. They aren't a government or council service so have no obligation to people, just themselves.

Unfortunately in Christchurch (and other cities I expect) it's either Wilsons or nothing - there are no alternatives, except rapidly diminishing street parking...

Browlee's a big fat idiot. Truly a useless dolt.  Rude insulting bully to go with it, so if you're offended by "fat shaming" you need to get a grip and look at his history of stereotyping and abusing critics who can't solve their problems with a simple diet / lifestyle change.

He has been Minister for EQ recovery in Chch, and he really stuffed up - big time - hence this thread.  He's been in charge.  WTF went wrong?  Oh - idiot at the top - blaming everybody under him for over 1/2 a decade.

But he's a long-term loyal fat pooch to the National Party, and a catholic, so immensely qualified to do whatever they throw at him.

His daftness possibly best demonstrated when under Brash in opposition, in the whitest electorate in NZ, he accepted the position of opposition Spokesperson for Maori Affairs, when asked WTF qualified him for the position, he counted up to 10 in Te Reo.

Yes. I reserve insults for the truly deserving only.

It is no different than racial abuse, gender abuse, hair colour abuse.

Actually it is. Some people invite insults by their behaviour. Others are innocent.

Trying to get out of a Wilson parking lot in a wheel chair is like trying to ride over a river bank.

That's a very good point, which I have to admit I hadn't thought of.

EDIT: Why aren't these Wilson's car parks subject to meeting certain standards? Other business premises have all sorts of codes they have to meet in order to get council consent, why can Wilson's throw up a pay and display printer and call an empty gravel pit a car park?

Maybe they are doing us a great service by making use of demolition sites? Good Samaritan stuff. Or it could be easy money, they won't care too much, let's make hay while the sun shines. I suspect the latter...

Backhands to the land owners while they sit in limbo awaiting sale/development/permit issue.

What do I do with this hunk of dirt noone wants to build on yet.. I know. Rent it to Wilsons!

After someone rolled their foot on one recently it was clarified, if I recall they only have to keep it to a 'safe for the majority' sort of standard

The simple fact is the vast majority of trips to the CBD will be for work related activities and thus will be car related.

The number of people visiting for pedestrian dominant activity will be low as not everyone in Christchurch will do it every week and the number of tourists won't be that high.

The minority who like to force their opinions on the majority but in cases like this or on social media will not win this one.

Remains to be seen.

I for one hope the trend continues.
