Hi All

I just bought a sub from the US - SubWoofer - Energy ESW-M8 NA 1200-Watt Subwoofer  (120Volt)

It runs on 120v only and not 240v.

The sticker on the back of the unit says

120V - 2.5A

So I need to get a Step Down transformer - but I am not quite sure of all of the terminology.

I am needing to convert 120V - 2.5Amp to 240V - so I guess this would need 1.25Amp

Since this is a sub I am not sure if a switch mode power is OK to use or go with a secondary coil step down transformer?

I would really appreciate if someone can help and recommend some products that I could use that will not introduce a HUM thorough the SUB and have enough power to make my SUB useful.

Cheers

Chris

Your math is correct.
You need a stepdown transformer of around 300w (Power = Volts x Current).
Something like this 500w one at Jaycar. They are not cheap.
CAT. NO. MF1084
You may get away with the 250w one at near half the price but would be very marginal.
May be cheaper to replace the internal power supply if you can find a suitable replacement for 240v with the correct output.

Thanks for the info - I will take a look at JayCar.

Not sure about the ability to replace the power supply unit in the Sub - but it could be a good option to look into.

cheers

Expensive unit at Jaycar - but I did find a different one that looks good and cheaper (a lot)

Out of stock  for 2 weeks or so

Good find. That would do the job and an awful lot cheaper.
