I have an old Onkyo TX-SR307 sitting spare which I thought I might sit on my desk hooked up to my PC, but as there isn't much room, I would need to sit my LCD monitor on top. Would this be an issue if a portion of the air vents were covered?
It depends how hard it's going to be working... If you turn it up loud with lots of speakers attached or run it at 4ohm it will run hot. Also some monitors have little rubber feet which would elevate it slightly so it can still breath a little.
Wont be running too loud, just want something better for Spotify and games, currently have Logitech speakers. And I thought its sitting there, may as well use it, just dont want to overheat it. Will be running at 6ohms
If it is out of warranty then take the case off and remove every other vane from the vent and that will increase the airflow for the uncovered parts of the vent.
You could try hooking up a PC fan to a 12v plugpack and blow air through. I've done that successfully in the past with some equipment in my A/V unit for better airflow. Helps with dust removal too.
