Hi there,

I'm looking at purchasing my first AV receiver and came across the Onkyo HTS6505 - http://www.avalon.co.nz/htib-sets/204-onkyo-hts6505.html

I wasn't really looking at getting a HTIB sort of thing, but this ticked all the boxes for me in terms of features vs price vs what I actually need. I was hoping to have a listen/look at it in person but after having a google around it appears Avalon Audio and RapalloAV (both based in Auckland, I'm in Wellington) are the only ones stocking it at the moment. I contacted JB Hifi and they didn't know when they would be getting it in.

Anyone know where I might be able to find one of these in Wellington? If not, maybe recommend something at a similar price?

For what it's worth, I have a Sony 40EX720 TV which doesn't exactly blow you away with sound quality. I'm mostly interested in an AV setup for playing music (through iPod, DLNA, Spotify, record player), but having the TV, bluray player and SKY running through it would be great as well.

If you are in Auckland Avalon have a retail showroom in Newmarket as listed on their website:

Ragnor the OP mentions being in Wellington so Newmarket is not going to help much.
Jared have you tried Harvey Norman? Love them or hate them they do have a huge range.. hmm maybe not. Cannot see any Onkyo on their web site.

Thanks Nety. Yeah I feel like from memory Harvey Norman used to stock Onkyo but not anymore by the looks of it.

Yeah I can confirm they definitely did as one of my work mates is selling his old receiver which he got from HN and it is a Onkyo. Very strange.

Yeah, unfortunately when I spoke to them they didn't have any idea when they would have the Onkyo HTS6505 in stock.
The older model HTS4505 is currently on sale at the moment so it could mean it's not too far away.

Avalon are the Onkyo agents here.  You'd lose nothing by emailing them to ask if they'd be willing to sell you with a unit with a right of return if it is found to be unsuitable, since you have no other way of auditioning it.  It's good customer relations for them, they have very little risk, and they could make a sale.  Everybody wins.
