Hi All,
Got my Roku 2 in the mail and have spent a frustrating couple of days trying to make it go.

I have gone through the requisite hoops and have a roku account with the netflix channel.

I have used unblock-us and I can load the Netflix channel and login - I get my categories (Top 10 for Jeff etc) but no items - all blank for every category.

Thinking it was an unblock-us issue I have also tried using StrongVPN at the router end - get the device coming up with a US IP and same issue,

Have tried hard reset and relink, have tried removing and readding the channel. Am I missing something here?

Crackle.com and Hulu both work fine.

Kinda frustrating reading all the success stories. Even more frustrating when both unblock-us AND the VPN service (done separately) both work fine for netflix on my PC.

help?

I found similar weird issues on my US version WD TV Live using unblock-us or uno-telly. Could never get Huluplus and Vudu and Netflix to all work at the same time with either of them.

Ive had good success with Apple TVs using Hulu and Neflix over here. The best thing is it's a local sourced Apple TV, no need to jump through hoops to get a device here they dont want to sell us.

@insane, did you buy a WD TV Live from the states for the features to be unlocked? ie do the NZ ones not include it?

I will never willingly buy an apple product. ever.

In any case with the WDTV there is a Live Plus version which is only available in/from US which has the necessary hardware to do netflix. The ones we get here lack the hardware capabilities to do netflix (so I have heard)

Still no luck with netflix - looks like the roku may be relegated to a plex client on the 2nd tv.

As much as you hate apple. I this case it just works. Pity the 3 hasn't been jail broken yet for xbmc and plex access. But I have a 2 for that as well.

But what I am trying to understand is why the Roku 2 doesn't - not find alternatives.

Bah will be doing packet captures tonight.

I have the Roku 2 HD. Never had a problem. Works fine with unblock-us. Could be a problem with the unit?

- Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Netflix app? Not sure if thats possible.

I specifically got the US version from Amazon as I head the NZ version doesn't include all the streaming services. Using it now with a custom made DNS service which does what unblock-us does, just better :D

For anything that amazon wont ship to NZ, I use myus.com :)

If I didn't want the extra features that the WD TV Live has, I'd get a Roku 2 as it's got far better buffering capabilities

Hi there,

What does the custom made DNS service entail? I use UnoTelly which is similar to Unblock-US, so what does the custom service do that these two don't?

I would be interested in exploring the setting up of such a service.

ISP: Snap

How did you configure your DNS Settings? Have you tried Netflix (same account) on a PC with the same DNS Settings?

And your PC where it works is also using the same Wifi network as the Roku?

Shortly after modifying my DNS settings for unblock-us I found my DHCP Server on my router was supplying different DNS information to physically cabled devices, and my wifi devices. It was not until I reset the router, and all devices this seemed to come right. But it was not immediate

But then you say Hulu+ is working... so it must be getting the right DNS settings.

Not sure what else u could try.
