There is no TV software that'll get the guide automatically from Freeview|HD. THe best option is to use EPG Collecter.

oh ok so no tv program can do epg without third party then I just gonna stick with WMC win7 as I got it populated by having a dvb-s pulling guide for recording and the hd tuner for live recording.

thanks,

Andy

all the other programs will work the same way, or as @sbiddle says get epgcollector to extract from dvb-t (which also works on wmc).

I'm a happy user of NextPVR, and I get NextPVR's programme guide populated with information taken from the broadcast Freeview terrestrial guide.

As others have said, none of the PC-based media centre or PVR applications can do that without the help of some third party software. But it is relatively easy to automate the process. A standard part of the NextPVR setup is setting a time for a daily update of it's EPG. When NextPVR runs the daily EPG update it first runs a user-provided script - in my case that script runs EPG Collector which grabs the full 8-day schedule from the broadcast Freeview terrestrial guide and writes the data to an XML file. NextPVR reads the schedule data from that file and updates it's internal EPG.

It sounds a bit involved, but it's not bad and plenty of people have done it before and would be happy to share the details. Furthermore once it's setup it just works - I think that I have needed to modify my EPG collection and update setup something like 3 thimes over the course of a couple of years when changes of the channel lineup has affected what I want to see in the EPG.

I installed NextPVR recently (alongside gbpvr) and I am sure it got the guide directly from the Freeview signal. I didn't have epgcollector working and no other source of epg.

I recall in the configuration screen, there is an option to update epg and then it scans the frequencies of the UHF transponders and grabs the epg.

I would check to make sure but the machine is dead at the moment :-(

Just to confirm

If you use the DVB EIT EPG you'll only get the now+next shows. nPVR doesn't have the ability to display or extract the MHEG5 8 day EPG.

if NextPVR can do EPG on its own with DVB-T then i will swap my setup however is it only populates couple of shows ahead then it makes it difficult to book recordings ahead of time. WMC does show the guide but only couple of shows then it displays the message no data if in DVB-T however I have been using it with dual DVB-T card and one DVB-S for guide.  Furthermore the other reason Im inclined to try NextPVR is because i could record four channels instead of just two.

thank you so much for replies to this post,

downloading....broadband in the evenings does not seem very fast eh...
