Our My Sky is currently hooked up to the TV using SCART at the MY SKY end and red, yellow, & white plugs into the TV. I am trying to work out if there is a better option for audio and picture quality given the TV has component inputs and there is the option of taking the signal through my receiver (with full array of connections) and running it back to the TV. SKY didn't want to know!

Thanks for any input

A quick search of the Sky website some up with this:

Question

How do I get stereo through my decoder?

 Answer

If your TV is connected via the aerial socket then this is always a mono connection. To get stereo you must use the AV inputs of the TV either with RCA-RCA cables (for composite video plus audio) or SCART-RCA cables (for S-Video or RGB plus audio).

Although I dont have a Mysky myself I am guessing from the answer that in addition on the composite signal that the scart connection can send out that it also handles S-Vid and RGB (and now component after the firmware update?). The appropriate scart cable could be what you need. A quick look on the back will also tell you if you have an s-vid output or even a component output (like you see on most dvd players). I expect you would need to alter a menu setting in the Mysky to activate those outputs.

Good luck and I am sure someone with Mysky will fill you in on the rest. I think this has all been covered in the past so go and have a look through the previous discussions too.

Cheers

Steve

The read and white connectors you already have are the two audio channels, so the audio is already as good as it gets.

For video, though, you can do better than composite (yellow). This should have been done during installation, although if you do not specifically ask for it, the installer may take the easy way out. We could not get component to work on mine, so I settled for s-video. As I recall, my other HDD recorder does not have component in, and MySky could not do component to tv and s-video to the HDDR. Come to think of it, I probably should have gone component to tv and composite to HDDR, as anything I send there is just to archive to dvd, and I normally use low quality compression for that.

Anyway, as Steve said, the right cable should do the trick. There may have been specific model numbers recommended on this forum previously. Note search button to the left.
