With Freeview about to go live, I thought now is the time to build myself a wee HTPC.

I've just got a groovy dual sat tuner from Pinnacle, but it only lists the Optus B1 and B3 satellites. I think that the D1 is a direct replacement for B1 (60 degrees East) but then I read there is a polarization problem.

So I plug the card into my pc, link up the old Sky dish that was there when I bought the house and hit the Go button. Only two Optus satellites listed, and the auto scan only picks up radio off each one. No TV. Bu66er.

That's with 4.11 of the software (Pinnacle Media Centre), so I try the 4.7 supplied on CD and notice that I have signal strength of 20%. 20% of what, I don't know.

Any thoughts whether it's a satellite problem- I am looking at the wrong satellie, or a dish problem, it's pointing in the wrong direction and needs a tweak, or it's a card problem, and I need to harrangue the supplier???

Oh yeah, I've also tried the freeware MediaPortal which looks good but doesn't find my card. Sigh.

Thanks in advance!
Jon

Unlikely dish is pointing anywhere other than D1 given you are receiving radio stations. Time to manually configure rather than use autoscan.

Transponder info for D1 is here http://www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html. You are interested in 12483 horizontal, SR 22500, FEC 3/4. TV3 and C4 will be on 12456 horizontal, SR 22500, FEC 3/4 (shutdown at present).

Thanks for the link, I had found that already while I was googling, but wasn't sure what specific numbers I needed were.

This is what I've got set. Are there any other fields I need to populate? As it stands, still no go.

setup details

Cheers

Modulation type is QPSK; Outer FEC method is Reed Solomon Forward Error Correction.

Hey

Was just wondering were you got your Pinnacle card from? Can it be purchased in NZ?

Hi,

I got mine from the Pinnacle UK website. Freight was a killer. I don't know if it can be purchased in NZ, let me know if you find out.

Cheers
