Hi eveyone.
Have been looking at getting a 42 Plasma and wondering what people think of Samsung i was looking at PS42Q7H. Its at Noel Leaming for $4499 but is currently at Bond and Bond for $2999. If anyone has any thoughts or alternatives for around that price it would be appreciated as this has turned out to be a harder decision than i first thought.

If you are in Auckland you could try the Appliance Shed in Papatoetoe or on the North Shore as they are very competitive on price. My father in law just bought a TH-42PV60A (Panasonic) which he is happy with. He doesn't watch too many movies though. Mainly sport.

See if you can get noel leeming to match the bond and bond price by 10% - I think they still do that...

According to the website they will match it (but not 10% lower) however will still give you flybuys.

They are the same company with the same stock.. Matching the price isn't exactly difficult for them!

If your in the Wellington region, i've searched long and hard at 40'+ plasmas and lcd's.....

The cheapest I could find, that is high def, is the Phillips 42pf75 42' plasma, sold at Harvey Normans wellington store for $2650
Otherwise, most plasmas/lcd's around that size start at $3000.....the exception is Dick Smith.....they have a 42' high def Dick Smith branded plasma for $2000...made by phillips and using the same panels as in phillips plasmas....

I have a Samsung PS42S4S which i'm very happy with. The only "issue" with it is that it is an "SD" screen and has a native resolution of 848*480 which is a little small when you hook it up to a media pc. I should have taken the "HD" panel at the time.

I use the DVI to connect it to my Media PC, I typically don't use the inbuilt sound or any of the extra inputs.

One day, when HD content gets more prolific and true HD screens come down in price, I might consider upgrading to a true 1080p panel (around $5K-$8K right now), but until then I'm happy with what I have.

There are only two brands to buy in Plasma:

1. Panasonic
2. Pioneer

Pioneer make the better panel, but only marginally and value for money wise, you can't beat Panasonic.

I have to agree, Pioneer defiantly make the superior screens.

But, if you want the best, you can't beat Bang & Olufsen's plasma.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

well.
i have had a Samsung PS42Q7H since Nov. 2006. it is excellent!!

have TC digital and the picture is great. last week also 'upgraded' to a Sony DVD recorder HDD and now can appreciate 1080i picture with the HDMI input!!
would recommend the Samsung as there are some advantages.
1. it includes a stand
2. technology was used in Sony Plasma screens.
3. price is cheaper than other makes. they need the extra cash to pay for marketing etc.!
4. watching 'game of two halves' now, i can count the hairs on Matt Ridges' chin when freezing picture.
5. picture in picture is excellent

and the list goes on......

We have a Samsung PS-42S5H about 18 months old which hasn't missed a beat. Really pleased with the picture skin tones etc. Mostly just watch TV via Motorola Sky digital STB using component input (nice little improvement over the s-video we used initially). No 'burn in' but we are fairly careful in that area. Was about two thirds the price of a high def Panasonic at the time.
