Hi

I'm looking for a 32" LCD for my bedroom and wanted some recommendations. I don't want to spend a lot so want to pick something up under $2,000 preferably around $1,600-1,800 incl cash discount. It will be connceted to the computer 60% of the time for watching divX movies. 20% of the time it will watch regular analogue TV. 20% of the time it will be hooked up to a progressive scan dvd player.

Some of the models i've found on the web are;

Toshiba 32WL66A $1,600 @ LV Martin (TV Specs)

Philips 32PF7321 $1,800 @ Bond & Bond(TV Specs)

Samsung LA32S71BX $1,800 @ Bond & Bond / Noel leeming (TV Specs)

Sharp LC32AW5X $1,900 @ LV Martin

Pansonic TX32LX60A $2,000 @ Bond & Bond / Noel leeming / DSE

I was thinking the toshiba sounded like a very cheap deal.

Before you decide on any particular model it would pay to check the PC support for supported resolutions and even go as far as taking your PC to the store and physically hooking it up to the TV. While virtually all flat screen TV's have PC inputs these days getting a good picture on screen without black borders can be a mission with some TV's. If you're going to use it as a monitor or for txt you may also not be able to get 1:1 pixel mapping which will result in text being a little blury.

I would have advice Dell's 27" LCD monitor which gives you more resolution, most suitable for PC, and all a lot of inputs for different video connections. Though might not be your choice and the price tag is above your desired range (NZ$2100), Though if you're willing to settle for slightly smaller (24") which is at NZ$1100, bear in mind though, both are displaying at very high resolution, easily 4x as much pixels than most LCD tv (aside from 1080p's)

yeah, i have been looking at the dells. the just came down in price, the 24" ultrasharp was $999 and the other one came down a bit too.

Check out www.pricespy.co.nz under monitors for 32" LCD TV's. There are some pretty cheap ones from some of the smaller computer dealers around town. The cheapest is the Viewsonic 3240W 32" LCD TV 1280X768 at $1150 odd.

Speaking of the Viewsonic N3240w, does anyone know what the difference is between this and the N3260w? I've had my eye on the 3260 (for my Xbox 360+HD) but the price of the 3240 makes it pretty attractive.

i bought the 24" dell ultrasharp for $999. Now unfortunately i need a new video card as i dont think my geforce mx 440 will cut the mustard lol!!

Hi all, not sure if this helps in any, but Harvey Norman in Manukau has the new Samsung 32" R81 (the bordeaux) series loaded on their computers at a price of $1999. When talking to Samsung a week or so before they told me the retail price would be the same as the previous model, $2999. The tv will be arrving in store in about 9 days. Looks like HM have the wrong price loaded so if you went & pre-ordered you should be able to get a very nice tv for a very nice price.

I have the Toshiba 42" from the same series as the Toshiba 32" you are looking at connected to my Media Center, Xbox and Wii and love it, it produces an excellent picture with the VGA cable with native widescreen res (I don't use VGA, but did try it).

HOWEVER...

My friend has the 27" from the same series, and is unable to get a native widescreen res, he has to use 1024x768 then stretch it, so each pixel is widescreen, making it a little harder to read, and also means that you don't get the same amount of items in a line in Media Center (Win).. like, you only get 3 albums or videos per line instead of four, and they are stretched.

My advise, make sure the screen you want will support native resolution with VGA.
