TV1 is going to broadcast the rest of the V8 Supercars season on Freeview. While not a petrol head I would imagine(hope) that it would be at least in 16:9 since I guess the host broadcaster in Australia would probably be broadcasting in HD?

Worth a look anyway

Yeah, I saw this. I too would hope it'd be in 16:9. HD, yeah right. I'm pretty sure nobody will be broadcasting freeview HD over satellite, we'll have to wait for DVB-T on this.

I'm a bit pissy actually. I have Sky, so can't justify freeview over satelllite, will wait for DVB-T. Would be nice if Sky routed this channel via their decoders? Anyone think they could do this?

The latest computerworld actually had an article on HD over freeview. It appears "they" will content protect such transmission

Well the channel with the program of events is on reserve 3 (freeview20) and is 16:9. so guess we can expect the racing in 16:9.

That would be an interesting approach to take. In the US people tell me, while HBO and others are keen to enforce HDCP for their broadcasts, there is little if any HDCP content over the cable networks or satellite networks. This is because the installed based on HD TV's with no digital inputs is such that such an approach would create a consumer backlash and we all know how litigious the US can be.  Perhaps also because the cable and satellite infrastructure does not provide for something like down resolution over analogue.

A similar analogy can be seen in the new HD optical formats. While HDCP is available and is enforced, they allow HD content to be delivered over component and don't enforce the ICT (for the moment). Again because of the potential consumer backlash.

So if Freeview do enforce HDCP, we certainly hope that the Freeview HD STB's also have component video output with no restrictions.

I got a letter from Sky today;
new channels...
"Crime and Investigation" for startup package starting later this year.
and from July 1st
"Sky Sports highlights" for sky sport package
"Sky Movie greats" for sky movies package

is it worth the price hike in the monthly subscription?
"we are also working on yet another brand new channel option"
could that be HD???

Hi,

Everyone keeps asking or hoping for a HD channel yet forget the basic problem, without a HD STB there is no point, HD will come when Sky and Freeview sell or rent HD STB's.

I aim to misbehave.

Go look the foxtel channel lineup. I would expect that sky will follow that closely since crime and investigation and a movie greats package already feature on that.

more real sports channels please. I'm tired of Sky filling their schedule up with these low cost documentary and 'womens' channels

The only one I have liked that they have recently added is the History Channel.
