Hi there,

Over the last couple of days I've had an issue with my Sony STR-DH520 with the volume

I have always had the volume set at 15. Then adjusted the Mysky volume which usually runs at about a quarter to achieve a normal listening level.

In the last couple of days something has happened, and I've had to double that to 30 on the amp to achieve the same volume. This is the same for any source, Mysky, apple tv, or streaming audio. I've tried all the different sound fields, checked the speaker loudness, checked my connections, and done a couple of auto calibrations with no improvement.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Everything else is running as normal, I just can't understand why I would have to double the volume. TIA

Maybe something to do with Night Mode volume - perhaps it's been turned on without you realising? See p.13 of your manual.

I used to have issues with sound on the MySky when I had one.  From memory I'd have to to toggle the HDMI output off and on to get it to come right.

Have you changed any of the surround sound parameters on the receiver?

Thanks, I looked in the manual, and checked night mode, and it is set to off position.

Thanks, No I have been through all the sound fields, and no difference. I have a 2.1 system and have tried auto cal a few times too.

Can you use / have optical 'in' on the sony AV?  Use that (from SKY) and you wont have to use that and you wont have to use two remotes anymore.
Have you tried doing a factory reset of all three devices? (TV, AV and SKY)?

I have my SkyHD set up to Dolby output via HDMI and then I use my TV Remote (which controls via HDMI to my AMP's Volume)  to control the volume (The Mysky remote doesn't do anything with the Volume when you set this settings)

I'm not too keen to run that way, as I'd like full functionality of the Mysky, which I don't think I could do from my amp or tv remote. All on the one remote.

Thanks, haven't tried a reset, will do that.

I usually have the amp volume set at 15 and leave it, Its always provided ample volume, then just adjusted the source volume through the musky remote. I like having all functions running through the musky remote.

If you want to use 1 Remote.. A lot of AMP remotes can be used to control most things. I can control Sky+TV+other things from an Onkyo AMP Remote with no problems.

Do you have any of the 'dynamic compression' settings turned on? They're designed to squash the volume levels when you get spikes in the soundtrack / adverts.
I don't know what Sony calls the setting... but checking that would be one of the first places to go.

'Auto Vol' is on p.12 of the manual.
