Hi

Anyone know what temperature is OK for AV equipment in a cabinet? is between 35-40 degrees too hot?

I have some cooler fans in the cabinet but the damn AMP is like a little heater.

I suppose you need to know what is the temperature when it standing in the manufacturers ideal position.

Maybe take the AMP out of the cabinet and put a thermometer on top.( ie cheap dick smith thermometer )

Watch a movie or two and see what temperature it reaches.

My Denon (x3000) needs 10cm free space according to the manual and the temperature on its top just sitting on a table is 32C

Thanks for that, will check the manufacturers spec.

32 sounds pretty high tho. My Yamaha amp has heaps of space above it and on the side but because it gets so hot inside the cabinet I am looking at options. It was 37 yesterday at the top of the cabinet when amp was on.

Ive jury rigged a case fan driven by the screen trigger connection (which happens to be 12v 150mA) and with it blowing air accross the amp sitting on a table it drops the temperature from 32 to 27 C.

Next step is to put the amp in the cabinet and do a temperature test, procrastinating because I will need to sort all the cables out.

My Onkyo amp (known for getting hot) used to get way hotter than that. I put a fan on top of the amp to draw air up, then another on the back of the cabinet to draw air out. From memory it probably sits in the 30s playing sd content, but still gets into the 40s playing hd content.

Look in the manual for operating range temperatures, I suspect you're ok.

In general terms, 40C is nothing for consumer electronics. In some places that's ambient temperature on hot days.

Been running AMP with Sky on in cabinet all day with no fan its 37 C with fan blowing accross it, it drops to 27 C.

If it stays like this I might look at dropping the volts to 7 V using one of the resistor extensions that come with case fans, as I'm not sure I can hear it running.

Having seen the comment above I might run some blu ray movies to see if it warms up more..
