I have a Panasonic th42py800az which is basically a monitor as there's no freeview.  I have bought an LG smart LED TV since which is our main TV.

Just wondering if there is a cheap alternative to stream video's or content to the panny?

Chromecast maybe? Or an Apple TV if you have a whole heap of Macs or iOS devices. I know Chromecast works with most platforms, and is cheaper.

Chromecast sounds good to me I would like to stream content from my laptop = video's really.  Not really interested in rasberry anymore had one looked to complicated to me so I sold it.

A cheap set top box (UHF or satellite as appropriate for your connection) should give you Freeview to that TV for about $99, if the missing functionality bothers you.

If I were in your position I'd probably be trying to get hold of a Nexus Player. I already have a Plex server running.  The other features would all be a bonus.  My kids are getting to the point (age) where a second TV might be needed.  When it happens I'll avoid the Smart TV lot, get a dumb one and try the Nexus Player.
