So looking to upgrade to a new 55-60 inch TV. No bigger. Its been ages since ive been in market for one so any advice on whats good would be helped.
I dont need 4k as nothing I watch is in 4k and distance I sit from TV dont think it would be worth it anyway.
Will be mainly used with Intel Nuc plugged into it and watching video/web surfing. Also for playing Xbox One. So TV with low latency would be great for gaming also looking for best picture quality I can find.
Dont really care for curved TV's unless someone can convince my why its needed. Dont have a budget at this stage. But dont want to pay more than I have to.

Really like the KD65X9000B from Sony. But think it would be to big and cant seem to find the 55 inch version in NZ.

I'm fairly certain I saw one in the Wellington JB Hifi, but you can always buy one direct from Sony online.

i looked at the LG's but for some stupid reason they put their feet at both ends of the TV, which means if i buy a 55 inch TV i need a 55 inch cabinet to sit it on and room to fit it. So that rules a LG out.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Glassboy: I'm fairly certain I saw one in the Wellington JB Hifi, but you can always buy one direct from Sony online.

Ill check JB. Cant get one from Sony. Asked them and they dont bring 55 inch into NZ only Aussie.

TH-55AS800Z from Panasonic...
The Sony's have had more than their fair share of Mira Effect issues. The Samsung made TV's seem to be a panel lottery, just hope you don't get one from Mexico... To top it off, curved is their thing, and I couldn't honestly recommend one to someone.
With one exception.
The LG OLED.
That is the best 55" TV currently on sale, from what I can see... the only other TV people are considering are TH-P55VT60's, and they're now 2013/2014 vintage, and if you can find one, you'll need to make sure you're happy with a plasma.

Having said that, don't write off UHD TV's.
We're heading down the path of increased colour space over the next few years, so we'll start seeing some impressive colour accuracy (once the industry stops arguing over who has the best standard to use).

Are you sure those feet are not adjustable? I know some of them are.

You probably need to leave the Z off the end of the model number - the Z denotes nZ.

That was exactly my thought

i have a 46 inch at the moment and it overhangs my cabinet by 8 inches each side,i presume a 55 inch is even wider, all other TV's have the stand supporting the middle why do LG have to be different.

I saw a 60" VT60 in DSE the otherday can't remember the price now but I felt a little sad knowing it was the last Panasonic VT. A magnificent display. Oh well roll on OLED. I'd be a little concerned about being an early adaptor of OLED. Burnin/IR issues? Will be great once they are perfected and mainstream though. If I was in the market right now I'd get a VT for sure.

Quantum dot could be interesting, and not very far away.
However, I don't think they've addressed the poor black level / backlighting issues that have always plagued LED's.
Now a HDR OLED with UHD resolution... that's the (current) holy grail!
