To make a long story short my homecast 9200 Freeview box is in a cabinet, so my remote doesn't work.

On the back of the box there is a 3.5mm ir sensor port.

I bought one of these but I'm assuming it doesn't work because it's an emitter and not a receiver. Is that correct?

http://www.jaycar.co.nz/Sight-%26-Sound---Home/Universal-Remotes-%26-IR-Extenders/IR-Extenders/Single-IR-Emitter-for-AR-1812-14/p/AR1811

I've done quite a bit of searching but still none the wiser.

Can anyone point me to a cheap solution?

Thanks

If you can solder, then get one of these and wire up. (I've done this before)

Check what pins have 5v on it from the 3.5mm jack from the stb.

Or see if Jaycar will let you get one of these, and allow to return if it doesnt work:  (not what I call cheap, but nicer looking)

Or, get one of these:

or go the whole hog and get the Ultimate.

Once you go Harmony, you will never go back :)

Thanks for the replies.

I exchanged the emitter for the receiver as per JonnyCam's post but it still doesn't work (not sure why tho).

I can't afford anything more expensive so it looks like I'll have to open my cabinet door every time. Poor me lol.

Thanks tho

To power it.

I've only bought the slightly more expensive multi head one. It works ok. Too much light on the sensor part will jam it somewhat. But on the wall under the TV and it's sweet as.

At that price it's worth a shot!

Just a quick thanks to richms for the recommendation. The Ir receiver works really well, and it was really cheap!

Cheers
