I just bought a LA32R81BX and got it all set up. the picture on tv is fine a little grainy but we dont have digital tv. through the 360 its great. played music dvd and was a bit disapointed with the sound quality, but i guess most people have home theater so not a issue.

i hired out a couple of dvd's (bourne ultimatum & i now pronounce you chuck and larry) and noticed a few problems. i watched chuck and larry through the xbox as it has component cable, and noticed that when people where walking across the screen the edges around them where all pixilated.

now i dident know if it was the dvd, xbox or the screen so i played bourne ultimatum through the dvd player, only has composite, and it did the same thing but there was also another problem, on the close up face shots it was like the camera was under water looking through the surface at the caracters its kind of hard to explain but it was quite distracting.

what im wanting to know is, is this a thing that this screen does or is it a faulty screen or do all lcd screens do it.

Expecting standard definition pictures to look respectible on any high definition TV is a big ask. I would purchase component leads for your DVD player and make that test #1. I have seen a 32R81BX displaying 1080i from bluray player and it was a noticable improvement (I'm hard to please and think 576i belongs in a museum).

What you are seeing is not uncommon for LCD's mainly due to the slow response of the panel, and why I still pick Plasma everytime, although 32" plasmas are thin on the ground, 37" are pretty common.

Might I suggest that you attempt to turn off as many digital enhancements, on the Samsungs turn the Digital Noise reduction, AutoColour and DNIe off, and the sharpness down, you may want to set this right down to around 30-50 and see if this help. You will find that the settings are independant for each AV input (I think).

And yes a composite connection will generate all manner of artifacts in the digital processor, I recommend you use component or HDMI.

I have the same Samsung, I certainly don't notice any 'underwater-like' blurring or pixilation...not unless you're sitting 12 inches from the screen...but nothing I find 'distracting'. Go to a store selling the model you've got, take a DVD movie with you, ask them to play it thru the tv so that you can see the picture quality.

I think the "underwater effect" was because of the composite cables on the dvd player as i player the same dvd on the same scene that had it worse on the xbox which is componant cables set to 1080i and it wasent there.

but i am still getting the pixelation around moving people. well its mostly when the camera pans with the people and the background moves.

it only does it on dvd and does it on both xbox and dvd player.

i will get some component cables for the dvd player this week and try the xbox on 720p to see if that helps.

1/2 of the reason i got the lcd was because i was getting sick of 1, 2 and 3 broadcasting in semi-widescreen and having the sides cut off on a 4:3 tv. but because its not 16:9 its streched and everyone looks fat. looks like i will have to fork out more cash for freeview.
