I've had my new Sony TV for just over three months now and I know I'm going to have to return it but before I do I thought I'd look to GZ to see if there's anything I can do first.

All the issues are sporadic, here they are listed.

*Both remotes will not work (aside from holding down power button to force the TV to shut down)
*Will not power off properly (goes a dark grey instead and LED light stays on)
*Will not connect to an HDMI receiver (screen just goes grey or goes into a loop where it flashes the info on and off)
*Will not display a game or app on PS3 (screen just goes grey, sound will still play through the receiver though)
*Info will not disappear from screen
*Some settings options will just revert me back to the home screen

I will reiterate that these issues are sporadic and 9 out of 10 times the TV behaves as it should but when it does happen it can be extremely frustrating (I missed the AB's haka at the World Cup final because of it). All issues can be resolved initially by fully shutting the TV down.

Model number is KD-55X8500C

Hi , I take it the TV is on the latest software , I have read elsewhere about issues with the Sony Android TVs but you would hope they could sort with software update .

Yeah it's set to auto update and I've checked to make sure. This morning did a factory reset as well to see if that helps.

Could be a HDMI issue between the TV and receiver , I have had  some strange things happen on two different TVs when they don't handshake correctly , but when its intermittent its hard to track down .

I thought that too, my receiver is quite old but I tried plugging my PS3 in directly also changed cables and which port it was plugged into all the same result until I shut it down.

Hope your reset works otherwise probably best to take it back if you have tried everything else .

I have had exactly the same TV for about 3 months also and I haven't had any of the issues you have encountered. Sounding like a return / replace to me.

Thanks for that. It helps to know that it's not a common problem.

Looks like that will be the case as it just did it again and this time it took a few tries to get it to shut down.

I just got 43w800c yesterday for my Office/Games room to play with my PS4... :-D Pretty cool unit but the Android TV update is very slow!

Update: I sent my TV in for repair a couple of weeks ago and have just received it back today unfixed. Apparently there is a software issue affecting quite a number of sets (though they are currently unsure why it is affecting some and not others), Sony know about this now and are working on an update so hopefully it will be sorted soon.

If you've received it back unfixed, your rights under the CGA allow you to go and get a refund or a new replacement, so depending on how patient you are, you've always got that option.
