Hi All,

I have recently moved to NZ and brought a Panassoinc Plasma and a Samsung LCD with me from the UK.

Both TV's have Digital tuners in that pick up the programs and the text information but will not display a picture or give sound. I have checked the signal quality and this looks pretty good - so why no picture? Both TV's have a slot on the back for a viewing card. Is there such a thing as a viewing card available to enable the Freeview channels to work?

Incedently - the Samsung analog tuner works fine when reconfigured to the correct PAL settings, but the Panassonic is UK only tuner so hoping somebody knows how to get the digital tuners working!!

The DTT tuners will be picking up the EIT data, but that's as good as they are here. Our transmissions will be Mpeg-4 so your mpeg-2 tuner won't work.

Thanks for that.. Do you think this can be resolved by a software update or is this a firmware issue?

Its completely hardware, you'll need a seperate box for our Digital terrestrial.

We also have a tv from the uk with a built in video player. When playing a video it has both sound and picture, but when trying to view normal tv we can only tune in a picture but it has no sound?? Is there a way we can get sound working on this??

That'll be because we use a different standard of audio. Is it possible for you to change the PAL standard?

Specifically it needs to be pag b/g - and both the UK sourced TVs I have looked at (was a few years back but I still have one here) despite not having an option to change to b/g from pal I also have no VHF capabilities on their tuner, which you will need if you want to see 1/2/3/4

As I have said before to other new immigrant... it isn't worth bringing your TV in unless you're prepared to experience difficult (or agony) workaround.

A flatscreen is worth it, but £49 21" CRT's from the supermarket - hell no.

anyway, with sky/freeview the tuner is irrelevent. Im just glad I got a free TV for the downstairs xbox since they couldnt use it ;) - RBG on the scart is quite good pic too, which you dont see on the cheap tvs sold here, just composite

Hi,
Bringing in overseas model TVs has traditionally ended in no good result, local brand agencies will not usually be able to asissist, the line from them goes "buy it in the market you are going to use use it in" and despite many manufacturers having seemingly similiar models, e.g. UK vz NZ there is often a lot of difference that may not be immediately apparent.
Anything for USA/Canada market should be avoided, they are often NTSC only, even via AV, and UK models typically have a PAL-I UHF tuner block only - no VHF for TV1, TV2 et al, and sound carrier separation is 6MHz, not 5.5 as it with PAL B-G that we have here in NZ.
