I was going to say Ascent sells them, but checked first and looks like they don't now either.

Yes its quite strange they were released and were around for a while then everyone in NZ decides to stop selling them.

Considering the audio adjustment knobs, heaps of connections including HDMI (which is really cool if its ARC) and reasonable sound for an active speaker at $250ish they were a bargain.

For those that havnt heard of them

These are no logitech level gaming speakers. I intend to use them to replace my 4k TV speakers, I may add a sub but doubt Ill need to as all Im looking to do is tidy up the audio.

Certainly better than a simialr priced soundbar imo.

Have you tried asking Computer Lounge? I've had good experiences in the past with them ordering stuff in. At the very least they may be able to tell you why they stopped selling them.

What's your budget? Can probably recommend something as good or better for the same $$.

The problem with getting them from Australia is that the shipping will likely eat away at any savings you'd make from getting them local.

Then you'll probably get stung with duty, gst etc

I think the 9c are about $250 NZD, well were when stocked. Computer lounge had a sale on the 8c for $200 on the weekend. The nice thing about the 9c is the HDMI connectivity. Keep in mind these are active.

The budget is too low to fit anything good in foot-in-mouth

I wonder how something like this would go, combined with some active studio monitors (ie from a Musical / Studio equipment seller like The Rockshop, rather than a hifi store, or they often come up for sale used on TM etc).

One obvious issue is that analogue audio out is unbalanced / RCA, so you would lose the advantage of being able to use balanced audio (noise-free vs RCA) direct to active speakers, but that might not be a big deal if RCA lead lengths to the speakers are short. If there was going to be an active sub, then perhaps even less of an issue as you could run short unbalanced RCA to the sub, then use balanced xlr from the high-pass output from the sub to the active L:R speakers.

well for actives i think the microlab sounds better than my TV speakers. not looking for audiophile gear. plenty of options for that price better than the TV speakers.
