If you can spare the extra $20 then these: MEIZU EP51 - very good for the price.

the 201s are my lawnmowing headphones. I had some sonys before but they were too bass heavy and my good headphones are too hard to druve directly from a phone, the 201s are ballanced sounding, easy to drive and if I drop them and mow over them its no biggie at the price.

The earbuds were a why the hell not cart addition at PB tech on a sale and were surprisingly good for what I paid.

was $20 when they did a sale. Might have been a mistake but they arrived and I used them a lot till I got lucky on a massdrop deal and got some shures which seal much nicer. The senheisers were great at xmas time at the mall as they are one of the few earbuds I have found that fit well enough to seal without feeling like I am drilling a hole in my head.

I have a pair of sennheiser 202 headphones which frequently turn up for sale for less than $50. I've leant them to my 6 year old boy quite a bit and have proven to be highly rugged. Sound great

If you want In-Ear I have Brainwavz S3 and Brainwavz Jive available. I get sent them to review, I sell them after. S3 is OK, Jive I haven't tested yet. Also have Cyberdrive Classic Bass and Soprano, with the Classic Bass being probably the best of the lot of them.

On-ear, at that price point, Sennheiser or whatever you can get on sale that you like the sound of.

+1 for the Sennheiser CX series. I prefer a "J" to a "Y" cable (behind the back of the neck), so I like the 300ii but there is a symmetrical cable option.

I tend to buy them from Amazon UK. About GBP 19 / NZD 35 excl VAT, but you will pay another $20 or so to get them here. You can get them for a similar price from PB Tech on sale. But PB Tech sales are few and far between so you might have to wait for a bit [/sarcasm]

I have been through a few pairs, though this is from treating them rough. They basically live around my neck and I have been known to hook them over things and give them an almighty yank.

I still rate the Marley Jammin Positive Vibration Sun Headphones. Wait for Noel Leeming/Farmers to have a sale and you can pick them up for $50. Great sound and nice quality build.

i have gone through 7 of those sennheiser 202 and in everyone the right ear has stopped working after 4- 5 months , they were replaced under warranty  so at least i always had new headphones.

And on the other hand my Marley headphones are almost 4 years old with no issues.

Wow, maybe i've been lucky with mine.  I've dozed off with them on, been on plenty of flights with them stuffed into my backpack in a small space above my laptop or squashed against what little headrest one gets in cattle class. Not to mention the hard time my son has given them.  The earmuffs can pop-off their hinges instead of breaking which probably helps.

Thanks! Looks like it will be the sennheiser hd202 II or @michaelmurfy 's meizu (quite like the idea of no wires) although it will sacrifice on sound a bit. Maybe I need to get both!
