I'm running MediaPortal on a Vista(home prem) HTPC with two HVR3000 tuner cards. I haven't loaded WinTV, just the drivers and the WinIR application. The IR sensor plugs into the tuner card. Is there any way I can get the Hauppauge remote to start MediaPortal with its "go" button (The button that would start WinTV if it was installed)?
I have no experience with batch files (but willing to have a go) and only limited experience with regedit.

Failing this, does the MS remote and receiver (USB I think) allow you to configure the above?

check out ir server on the MP forums - it has a program launch feature that would maybe do it - the rest of the app allows things like blasting to a sky decoder.

Thanks for the link. I will have a look at the docs and then try it.
I found a thread on this site that asked this question amongst others:

But the thread mainly branched into the mobo being used but the info on an ini file edit of irremote.ini looked like a possibilty....
If either No1Daemon or davidcole are current in this forum/thread would they care to comment?

Hi, there was a post on the MeidaPortal forum about this: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-talk-45/calling-all-mp-new-zealanders-both-you-2321/index116.html check about the third post down. I downloaded that file, renamed it to Irremote.ini and replaced the one I already had. Now I can launch MediaPortal with the green button on the Hauppauge remote. I am using Windows XP but should be the same on vista.

Thanks for the link. I was aware of the hack to irremote.ini and once I turned the UAC off in Vista (UAC- Universally Annoying Component) I was able to modify it. However my mediaportal.exe resides in a separate directory (not windows or program files) so I had to amend the string aiming at the exe to the correct one. Now pushing the green button calls for the exe but then an error comes up with a message saying it is unable to find mediaportal.exe.

For anyone familiar with .ini files, Am I able to use long filenames in the address string or am I limited to the old 8.3 as in DOS? And does the target of the ini need to be in the same directory?

Disregard the questions above. In an aha moment I tried removing the address string and just pointed the assigned button directly at mediaportal.exe.
So the irremote.ini line I modified in the [Default] set was:
GO={gomenu()}{findwnd(,IR Remote)}{fgnwnd()}

and changed it to:
GO={run(mediaportal.exe)}

Vista was obviously clever enough to find the exe on its own. Now the 'GO' button starts MP. The rest of the buttons do not need to be reassigned as MP takes care of that when it opens.
