If you are talking about putting the 8" car sub in the enclosure in place of an 8" woofer in an existing speaker, then it will be awful.

If you mean to get an 8"car sub in its own box, and then add that to the sub out of your home theater amp then it can work quite well to get more kick on movies. I would suggest an 18" rather than an 8" tho ;) Need lots of power, but it doesnt need to be a very "musical" amp if you are reading the audiophile bull-words to describe it. surplustronics have some pretty good value amps that drive car subs great.

I have a pretty generic dual 18" car sub box for mine - grey carpet and all. It was quite horrible till I blocked up the ports with some old socks to tone down the boom, now its really good, but I cant use it since I have neighbours that seem to think that silence is a good thing.

If you are messing around with a legacy type analog amp with RCA ins and no DSP, then you will need to get a crossover to add a sub amp to it. Those tend to cost more than a cheap home theater reciever with all the DSP needed for that and more internal to it, so I have not bothered other than when I tried an old car crossover on the garage stereo along with the same car subs and it worked okayish but not amazing since it had a pretty stupid range of frequancies it would cover and I had a groundloop making hum.

So you have a power amp?

What are you using to control the volume / change input at the moment?

i use my iphone thru a bluetooth audio reciever into my rotel amp (60w by 2)

speakers are 100w rms so would like to increase amp size with out spending alot

was also looking into class d and j amps for less heat more efficent.

i can get a class j amp which does 130wrms x2 for around $500

All of those stats are pretty much meaningless without the rest of the info...

130W x 2 @ 4ohms 10% THD would probably offer less power than your current Rotel.

If it's 130W x 2 @ 8ohms 0.006% THD, it's a much different story. However, it's not likely to be this spec for the money you're talking.

Also, when your speaker manufacturer claims '100W RMS' for the speakers, it's meaningless without the efficiency stats and impedance at which they used to come to the 100W RMS figure...

All in all, list the speaker brands and it should uncover a little more information for you.

Ultimately, to get better sound, not using Bluetooth would be the first place I'd start.
