Parents looking for a soundbar have no knowledge so if anyone knows of a good one below say$800 ...would like to hear about one.....just googling at mo and have found one that is pretty good unsure of nz price as yet....Q acoustics m4..

looks nice would depend on price...q acoustics m4 is$999 at Rapallo they r just sick of the awful sound from there tv and both slightly deaf...tks for your thought though..

I've got a few - a Samsung, Panasonic and a LG. I really like the Samsung in terms of sound etc and use it on my home PC hooked up via SPDIF.

Really with soundbars you can't go too wrong. They're not the absolute best in audio quality however I'd say this Samsung one looks quite good and is a bit of an upgrade from my current one. The Panasonic one I've got (this) is quite good as it allows for NFC pairing and does sound quite good also. Your TV picks them up and will turn them on / off and control the volume etc - quite simple devices.

Don't get caught up in HDMI CEC - instead look for a soundbar that can have volume / mute controlled by the TV remote (learning) as HDMI CEC can be hugely unreliable (especially if the TV gets a firmware update, or, well, no reason other than CEC hates you).

$800 should get you a soundbar with a wireless sub - but the good ones are typically from audio brands, not TV brands.

It's the TV brands who couldn't make the TV speakers work in the first place...

Denon / Polk / QAccoustics / Yamaha / Klipsch etc will all make excellent soundbars.
