HI Dudes

I have a problem with the above equipment tahy hopefully someone can help. When i try to play bluray through my ps3 into my amp then into the lcd tv it cuts out every 5 secs picture and sound. I have all the correct 1080p hmdi cables and when i play the PS directly into the TV it works just fine but whn placed into the reciever its cuts out every 5 secs with the hmdi icopn flashing when it does? Any ideas HELP ME please

I have the PS3 and the same amp and it passes a 1080p signal through to my projector fine. My amp has had the firmware upgrade which (among other things) did fix a few hdmi issues I believe.

What happens when you drop down to say 720p?

HI dude

Um do i change that rom the PS3 ? seems to be a amp problem as it plays just fine direct into my tv

Is there a switching or setting i need to adjust on the amp ?

when i take res donw on the amp it still does nothing, I know i have not got firmware upgrade how do you do that

If you hold down both the standard surround button and the power/standby button for about 5 seconds when the unit is in standby mode the current firmware version will display on the panel.

The latest version is:

M1.002 F0.503
D1.003 H1.005
Host 28
f1.004 s1.001

Updating can only be done at a Pioneer service centre.

One of the things it's supposed to fix is an 1080p HDMI sync issue but before you get too concerned about that:

Try checking the HDMI cables are firmly in place on all connections.

Try setting the PS3 video output to 720p and the audio to say 2 channel PCM.

I'd be surprised if you weren't getting any HDMI signal through at all.

Has to be amp problem , reset ps3 settings and still has problems although now amo is showing me what speakers are up., damm shame since i have such good gear but cant enjoy it, off to Harvey Normans tomorrow

I turned the 1080p output off on teh PS3 and it does not skip any more, But is it still comming through at 1080p ? or will my amp and 1080p m8 tulip samsung upscale it? My Amp is the older version and what amazes me is how they can sell it knowing it has a fault

If you've put the PS3 output down to 720p and the receiver is passing that through OK then at least that's a start but you're right that 720p in will not be 1080p out.

I can't guarantee that the firmware is the problem but I can't think of any other reason either.

Most electronics these days will have software faults due to the complexity and the impracticality of testing with every connecting device.

The other things fixed in the updates are supposed to be a HDMI dark picture issue and a LFE issue ( low frequency channel not being boosted by 10db). There's a huge thread here on AVS Forums about it except in the States the unit is called the Pioneer Elite 84.

Hi there. Try this...
On the PS3...
Settings > BD/DVD > BD1080p24hz ( Change from auto to off)

See how you get on. Andrew

The PS3 will still output 1080p but not at the 24hz movie frame rate. The amp does not like it

. Make sure you change the the PS3 back to 1080p as you stated you changed the output res. Andrew

Worth a try but I have mine set to auto and it passes 1080p fine in that mode.

The VSX-AX4ASi is capable of sending 1080p24 through as well.
