I have looked everywhere I can think of and have not come up with anything, I am looking to consolidate devices where I can. I am looking for a 4K HDR Bluray player, Freeview recorder, streamer and hopefully zone free DVD (old offshore boxed sets) There seems to be bluray player/recorders that upscale, Straight 4K Bluray players but nothing that I can tell that does all.

Any ideas folks?

I don't think there are any available yet. None that I can find anyway. If you want 4K HDR it will need to be a standalone device for now.

Its a pain, I have recently wall hung our new TV and I am trying to achieve a very clean minimilist set up. I want to dump the Pansonic recorder, Xbox One S etc and get to one device. My wife suggested the new Vodafone TV system may be good as it sorta gets there and just have a Bluray player. The TV of course can record to externel HDD but that has only one tuner and would mean cables.

Unless you chuck it all and got network based for recording (or just don't and use ondemand). Plex is getting better for recording contents, and there are other methods as well.

Do you need recording?

Just asking, as we have a Panasonic recorder, and were using it quite a bit.

I haven't set, or watched a series linked recording for about 3 months now.

As we only have Freeview (otherwise would have a MySky, which is IMO the best recorder in the market hands down), I just watch everything I would have recorded (including the stuff I HAVE recorded on series link) OnDemand now.

I use an AppleTV to do this, and find it quite nice that I can still fast forward through the ads (on ThreeOnDemand anyway - because they regularly have very LOUD ads - AirNZ ones usually).

If the Pana died, I probably wouldn't bother replacing it.

our usage is the same, has moved to ondemand. While I can still record....and used to heavily, we don't anymore.

I just checked our PVR, interestingly on the HDD of the Panasonic earlier in the year there was a variety of content being recorded however, now the range and frequency has deminished quite a bit especially since the launch of the new Freeview format. Definately food for thought.

Thanks for that, what a pain they don't bring it here. I wonder if it is compatible with NZ. Most of their devices seem to do both countries.

We seem to lag behind aus on panasonic released - they've had the DP-UB820 for a while and it's only recently appeared on the panasonic NZ (and I haven't seen any in retailers yet) - so could be worth dropping Panasonic NZ a line and seeing if they are going to release the 4K player/recorder here and it's just delayed?

Tough find in one device.

The closest I can think of would be something like an nVidia Shield with connected hard drive and an HD Homerun.

I understand it the Shield can use the HD Homerun to record freeview with the right software. Use your computer to rip the DVDs/Blu Rays to the hard drive, and software (eg Kodi, Plex or Emby) to organise and play the media. It will do 4K and US formats quite happily. Personally, for what you want, I would keep the Panny recorder for FV and add the Shield (+harddrive) for all the other material. Only two devices and should do what you want.

I am down to three devices on my Living Room TV - A Sky box (likely to go soon!) a Panasonic Recorder and a chromecast. One device in the bedroom (Chromecast) and one device in the Spare room (Raspberry Pi running Rasplex). All my recordings, including off FV and Sky, get tossed to a NAS. All my CDs, DVDs and Blu Rays are ripped to the same NAS. Plex organises the media. Every TV can play files off the NAS.

The NAS solution is worth trying if you have a lot of media, several family members and/or more than one TV. Having all the media accessible on every TV, searchability with nice metadata and cover art, and keeping track of what you have watched and where you are up to on everything by user, is hard to go back from once you have tried it.

(As a slight tangent, I am going off Plex as the right software for this. It was brilliant, but recent upgrades have made it a bit buggy and unstable, and really changed the user interface for the worse. If I was starting again I would probably use Emby. Over Christmas, if I have the time, I plan to trial an Emby migration).
