I give up.

I've tried and tried and I simply just can't work it out.

I've had a look at Youtube videos - still no luck. It just doesn't want to play.

Happy to pay for someone to assist me in setting this up.

My setup is:

  • Sony TV
  • Beelink Android TV box
  • A few smart light bulbs
  • Amazon Alexa Echo Hub
  • Amazom Alexa Echo Dot

I'm in Milford (North Shore).

Pity I'm in Tauranga.

I've set up a hub with activities to my dumb Sharp TV, Panasonic hdd recorder & Lifx bulb.

These are tied to routines in Alexa.

The kids are adept at turning it all on with just "Alexa, TV on"

Bugger! I'll actually be in Tauranga on the 19th, but that's not really going to help, as I can't bring my TV etc. 😅

That's exactly what I want to do as well: Alexa, TV on etc.

As an example, I want to turn my Beelink Android box off, but when you hit the off button (on the original remote), it gives you three options: One is Sleep, one is Power Off and one is Restart.

I can't seem to get the Harmony Hub to understand this. It just says on the option, where I have to pick either Sleep, Power Off or Restart.

I could imagine the Harmony would have issues with that Android box in that case. It isn't a complete solution in many respects, it more just can do simple power on/off sequences.

Can I suggest just leave it on, this what I do with my sky box, there is a seperate option (device/power settings/keep device always on) I just switch off the receiver and TV

can you not add a custom command after that to select down once/twice and then ok?

Not sure how to do this. If you know, any instructions will be much appreciated.
All the instructions I've found, have been through YouTube.
Bought it 2nd hand.

you would need to add that to the "Activity Shutdown Commands" for the activity

you would add a "step" and then add the button presses to navigate to Sleep

Youtube's not always the best source of guidance in these kinds of matters; often you'll find better (and searchable) instructions or guidance on text-based sites.

I assume you've read any Logitech-produced material on their website? Is there a PDF instruction manual, or do they provide only web-based help pages for anything but the basics?

Here's one start point, if you haven't looked at this stuff: https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/companion. Even if not giving you specific answers it would give you a better idea of how your remote works, which will be useful for troubleshooting. Suggest the same with reading an in-depth review of the remote if you haven't already - diagnosing the specific is easier when you understand the general.

Good luck sorting it; it's worth persevering - once these remotes are set up not much can touch them for ease of use. But, yeah, set-up can well be a dog.

And here's another detailed walk-through of how they work and set-up: https://www.smartenlight.com/logitech-harmony-hub-elite-ultimate-companion/

For setting it up with Alexa, it is best to have your activities (in Harmony) all set up and working as expected first.

After you are happy with that, you enable the Alexa Skill and import and name the activities to Alexa.

Is there an Alexa skill you can use to control your Android TV box? (Maybe the the Android tv one?)
Otherwise you may need to look for an Android app to load on your box that simplifies shutdown (may require root though, so not ideal).
Otherwise the only way I see to achieve the shutdown is (as above) a macro that opens the shutdown menu arrows down and then selects.

The other thing I have had some success with in the past was using the device’s original remote and let harmony suggest what the device is. Sometimes the ir codes someone has uploaded include discrete power on power off codes rather than a power toggle or power menu call.

So I'm trying to create this activity, which will turn my Android box off.

If the activity just is set to turn off, my Android box gets stuck at the screen, which says Suspend, Shutdown or Reboot (when it tries to Power Off).

I would need to create the following:

One step, which is Power Off.

Then I need to create a step, which would be 'DirectionDown' and then another step which would be 'OK'.

The issue is that when I try to move Power Off up to the top, I get the following error: Power-off and home-control commands can only be rearranged within themselves.

Any help is much appreciated. I really want this thing to work, but I find it unbelievably tricky to set up.

so for my harmony 650, which may not be the same as your one i would do the following:

select the remote
select devices
select the media player > select change device settings
select change device power settings > select next
select either:
I want to turn this device off when not in use, or
I want to keep this device on when i switch activities and only turn it off when i press the off button
select next
select i press two different buttons for on and off > select next
input the commands you use into the power on and power off button sections > select finish

test it and see if that works.

as i said it may not as you have a different remote to what i have but i assume you use the my harmoney software too so cant be too far off.
