Hello all,

I have a problem with the DVI out on my 8500GT to the hdmi on my samsung F series TV.

I doesnt appear to work.

I can DVI out to a monitor, no issues, Svideo out to the TV, Svieo out to composite on the Tv.

But when I go DVI to HDMI the input on the TV is not recognised. I get a few black lines when I initially change the resoltion on the 8500GT to match the TV, these black liners appear only during the 15 seconds of do you want to keep these settings. then its back to black and white fuzz again.

i havent tried another cable, yet, as I dont have one. i havent tried a a different HDMI device, as I dont have one.

I am at pains to go out and spend another $60 on another cable that may not work.

Any ideas before I go and flash more cash.

try a different HDMI port on your TV generally HDMI 1 seems to work.

1. if you have any other video connections to tv remove them (svideo, vga)
2. shut down the computer, leave the tv on and flick it to corresponding input
3. connect dvi to HDMI
4. start the pc
5 it should work.

if the above doesnt work, obviously try hdmi 2 port. if not even this then start the pc, turn the speakers up and plug the cable in/out and see if it makes the ding dong noise.

How old is the Samsung F series? I know that most Samsung Plasma's & LCD's up until last years models would not accept PC signals via HDMI. This was clearly marked in the manual if this is the case.

Try this

PC and TV both OFF (Not sleeping/hibernating)
Plug DVI(PC) -> HDMI(2) on TV
Turn on TV first and select HDMI(2)
Then turn on PC

It might be the cable, goto dicksmith and buy their cheapest cable, because they let you return things if the packaging is still good (check first).

I have a series6 samsung LCD

res = 1080 (on PC)
PC (vga) > TV (vga) : works
pc (DVI) > TV (hdmi) pictutre works, but no sound via RCA(any suggestions??)

The TV manual said use HDMI 2 input for PC, seems to work with 1 or 2, but no sound

As mentiontioned above, the TV & PC need a restart to get the screen size correct
if the PC res is incorrect, it wont dispaly anything.
My DVI-hdmi cable was only $25, cheaper elsewhere.

I am currently having problems with DVI-HDMI from a mini mac (running vista). Pretty sure the solution to this problem is using a DVI-I to HDMI adapter instead of DVI-D to HDMI adapter.

What are you using? Are you using a DVI to HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI adapter end then an HDMI cable?

Make sure you DVI adapter has 24+5 pins not 24+1. Or try the other way around depending on what you have tested.

Ok,

Thanks people I now have a picture, got it to work by hotplugging and having a bit of a mess around

unfortunately no sound, same issue as 1101..with Samsung TV?

Anyone found a fix for this one?

if you want sound via your video cards hdmi port you have to have a little cable running from your soundcard/onboard sound to the video card. also you enable HDMI as default audio output in control panel-> sound settings.

I only have a DVI port so I am taking sound direct from my onboard soundcard via a stereo jack to RCA cable into the TV on DVI/HDMI audio port No sound only the odd crack and pop

seems a tad strange that 1101 appers to be having similar issues..

If your video card supports sound passthough then the TV will listen to the HDMI cable not the RCA jack. It may be possible to change this in the setup of your TV but it was not possible with mine. Had to get it working via the video card (which is better way to do it at the end of the day anyway).

DVI on some video cards can pass SPDIF to a HDMI cable. Have a look at your card. There should be two plugs on it. One for the fan and one two pin jumper it looks like. That will be the one for the SPDIF signal which you need to get from your soundcard.

According to the manual, using HDMI2 also (i think)gives you the option of using the RCA's next to HDMI2 for sound.
Unfortunately, the manual is VERY poorly worded & a ambiguous about this (as is the wording on the back panel)

The manual does say, that if using HDMI for PC, then HDMI2 need to be renamed in the menu system to PC
Perhaps this will trigger the RCS's on??
They may be an option to enable them in 'service mode'

" I'm beginning to wonder if it's something to do with the 8X00 series cards supporting HDMI. So when you use a DVI->HDMI adaptor they send a full video & audio signal down the cable, it's just that audio is silence as there is no audio being input in to it.

Then when the TV receives it it sees an audio signal on the HDMI2 input and so doesn't look for the audio through the DVI IN(HDMI2) audio inputs and just gives you the silence the video card is sending. If that makes any sense..."

Correct. This is why you MUST feed the sound via the video card. It will then work correctly.

Great, but no so great, the 8500Gt i have does not have an spdif connector to loop onto. The manual says nothing about it so I guess I am stuffed

I will chase around and see if I can get another card to test with

Any other ideas apreciated. I would of course help if the spdif connector on the TV for VGA input was coax and then I would be sorted . unfortunately its a toslink

I have a 8500gt as well. It mentioned something about it on the box but was very vauge. Did not say anything about it on the box and when I emailed XFX they said that the jumper I had seen was NOT for spdif input.. this was after I had hooked it up and had it running.

If you card does have a plug for it then it just looks like a jumper and in fact mine was called something like J7 and is near the top edge of the card.

Hope you get something sorted out.
