Hi all, im a newby here so please bear with me. I have just had mysky added and want to hook up my tv in the bedroom as i used to with the old sky unit. i have bought a modulator http://jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=8020&IMAGE
but it doesnt seem to plug in right ..(its probably me) so.

standard roof aerial is going to my TV
Sky aerial is going to MySky unit
HDMi cable is connecting my TV to the Mysky unit.
All this works fine.

can anyone please tell me from the picture on the link, where i plug the lead going to my bedroom tv ? (if that makes sense)

I haven't personally played with one of these Jaycar units but I'm guessing it has a couple of RCA connectors on the unit (or 3 if you got the stereo model). You need to plug the video & audio from the back of the MySky into this box and then connect the RF output into the cable that runs to the TV in your bedroom.

You won't have the FTA channels off the aerial doing this however, do that that you will need to put a 2 way splitter into the aerial before it plugs into your TV and run 1 cable to the TV and the other to the aerial input in the modulator.

Just be aware that this model does CH0 and CH1 only, if you live in Wellington and have a TV that only does CH1-11 you wont be able to combine the existing aerial + the modulated signal (as decribed in my past paragraph) as TV1 uses CH1. Some TV's will tune CH0, many won't however.

ts really helpfull thanks alot. Ive drawn a detailed diagram of my setup and am going into Jaycar tonight to work out what else i need. I live in Auck and have a brand new tele so fingers crossed i can work it.

You plug the "to tv" into the cable to your other tv, it should just plug straight into the cable that was in the output of the old sky box, the tv antenna goes into the input, and then you plug the 3 RCA's on the end of the long cable into the sky box, and plug the AC power adapter into it there as well.

If you had a sky box before there should be no need for adapters or anything.

Yeah i went into Jaycar last night with my diagram and all i needed was a splitter to allow the bedroom tv access to both sky and normal aerials and a female-female adaptor...All sorted.
However , only seem to be able to find the sky channel on Bedroom tv and cant seem to tune in channels off the standard aerial ...will keep trying.

That is correct for that modulator. Its a VHF one so it switches over when active so that the band is nice and clear. If you want to have sky and the other analogs then you need to get a UHF one, hope you can find a clear channel, and then still suffer with random interference on it as signal conditions change etc.

Oh ok ... excellent. Thanks so much for that. Save me wasting more time wondering why i can tune the channels. Maybe ill get a UHF Modulator then and that should give me my Bedroom tv back to channels 1,2 &3 and channel 0 for sky.

With noise and interference tho.

Those modulators are not designed for distibution since they have no filter to clean the channel up of noise before adding their signal.

Cheapest way is to find an old VCR and use the one in that, some of the old sonys have a local/dx switch which will boost the output of the modulator when in local to help overpower any noise, but in doing so it really messes up the UHF band quite badly for other stuff.

You could bug sky for a modulator, apparently they are supplying them for the MySky HDi. I have one, but I bought it. The installer that installed my HDi told me that Sky will supply modulators if you bug them.

I rung Sky to request a modulator. They said , yeah sure, then she mentioned $49 to get it installed. I asked if they could just send it out and I'd do it myself but no joy.

An acquaintance (sp. that doesn't look right) had a modulator installed with a new MySky HDi and was charged $10 on top of the usual $49.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

When I talked to SKy (on the day I had MySkyHDi installed) they said modulators were on back order, but I confirmed at least three times with the CSO that it would be installed free of charge when they were available.
