Hello,

Ive had toubles with thiws for a while.

Im running a 5.1 panasonic system, got it 2-3 years ago for $700. Im running my HTPC through RCA ( 3x 3.5mm to 2x RCA) throught he onboard realtek HD 882?

The model number of the souround sound is SA-HT05

I cant seam to get it to reconise that its 5.1 so the bass is very quiet and the rears arnt working. If i switch it to sterio ( on the amp) i get bass

Im running powerdvd 8 and i have told it that i have 5.1 and its dolby digital iix?

Any help would be great!

What channels does this happen with? All? Or just one broadcaster?

The reason I ask is that I have noticed TV3 is abysmal with their audio generation. Yesterday's V8 Supercars & the A1GP were both broadcast in 2.0 sound. I'm running all my audio via SPDIF & my sub wouldn't activate. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Further to that, after two advert breaks during Bones, it took some 20 seconds before the 5.1 audio was switched over from 2.0 sound. Does it cost more for 5.1 sound???????????

The point: it may not just be your system: it could also be due to the total lack of integrity of the broadcasters we have in this country.

Hmm. But i also tryed a 720P hd movies (has 5.1 audio in it) and i still didnt get any rears. and the bass was very quiet. Altho i think my centre might have been working.

So you are feeding the panasonic 6 X RCA?

If so the problem is with the setup of your soundcard. Have you set up Windows to use 5.1? You also may need to tell your soundcard software to decode Dolby and DTS. What OS are you using?

Im using Vista 32. My on board sounds doesnt give me the option :*(

Onboard sound is Realtek HD 882?

Yea going though 6x RCA. do i need a sound card :S i have no pci slots left as my 8600GT is duel slot.. and i have a wireless card in it.

Anyone know how to configure the Realtek HD 882 to not? decode

That sound card will do 5.1 in fact looks like it can to 7.1. However you do need to make sure it has the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer. Once you have the right drivers right click on the speaker icon and select playback devices, highlight speakers and click configure. you should then be able to select 5.1 and setup the outputs.

Yes i have set it to 5.1. thats my problem. its set to 5.1 and when i click on the speakers to test them, no sound comes out.

Does the panasonic have a setting to tell it where the signal is being fed too...? If you are getting two channel sound maybe try putting one of the feeds for the rear speakers into a front and see if you get sound out of it then. If you do then it is something set incorrectly on the amp. If not then the PC.

Check the jack tasks are right in the realtek HD audio manager application, It should pop up by default if you pull out and replug any of the sockets. Even if you set it to 5.1, you still have to tick the boxes to tell it what speakers are connected, as well as have the jacks set correctly.

i have checked them. and on this version you arnt able to change them (i can on my desktop, 888 chipset.)
