Has anyone bought or looked into the Phillips TV’s from PBTech?

I’m looking at this one:

I won’t be using it for the smart features but will be using it with the new Apple TV 4K and sound will be external Bose soundbar.

Seems like a good panel and specs for price.

Thoughts? Anything you would recommend to compare it to for similar price?

It's a standard LED UHD TV. Same weaknesses that go along with all LED displays in terms of the lighting. Perfectly fine TV if that's not a concern for you.

I bought a Panasonic TH-65HX700 for just under $1500 at the Easter sale. It has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I'd be checking with the chain stores to see what deals they could do on one.

Didn't Phillips withdraw from the NZ market? Will you have warranty cover from the manufacturer or just PB techs warranty?

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Harvey Norman, Heathcotes and JB Hifi all have that model for $1448 currently.

We have bought 2 of the Philips 65 inch TVs from PB, not that android one, but the cheaper version (on sale was $899 for black friday) and its a "good" tv, its a direct lit VA panel, so good contrast, fine details is very good, motion is one of its weaker points (watching golf for example shows a bit of ghosting) but for us, they are great. Neither is used for sound (both hooked up to stereos) so can't comment on that.

I think Philips pulled out around 2012, so it's been interesting to see them coming back over the last couple of years.

I'm guessing these comeback models are maybe badge engineered and/or independently distributed?

I have one, purchased last year after lockdown ended.

Purchased for bigger screen, HDR, ambilight and becuase the feet weren't at the edge (so didn't need to replace the TV cabinet).

No complaints here. Picture is good, speakers reasonable. Smart TV is a bit meh but I use a Chromecast with Google TV.

Works fine with Xbox One and Series X.

Android would probably be better in terms of smarts. Doesn't look like that model has ambilight though.

I believe Philips TVs are manufactured by AOC (as in monitors) or at least the same company owns both.

How do you like it? The "True Cinema" mode is pretty decent out of the box.

Finally got it out of the box and mounted on the wall. Really happy with the picture quality. Using it with the new Apple TV 4K.

Did you tweak any of the picture settings? I haven’t played too much with them yet.

I tweaked a few things. I turned on ECO mode to dim the screen a little and played with the backlight and contrast to help the black levels. My room is reasonably dark.

The True Cinema mode is decent out-of-the-box and a great starting point. I adjusted the gamma to 2.2 (I was trying out settings from a YouTube video or a similar model) and made sure all the remasters and noise reduction was turned off. I ended leaving the Adaptive Backlight Control on "min", as turning it off makes dark scenes have terrible black levels. Ambient Sensor = off. Intelligent Frame Creation = min.
