Hi All - I feel like I've been banging my head against a brick wall! Over the last few days I've been trying to get Windows Media Centre to play .ts files so that I can then watch them using the Media Centre Extender on my xBox 360.

However I haven't had much luck, I keep getting generic 'file not found' errors. I did find a forum post saying that there is no compatible 64-bit H.264 decoder for Vista Media Centre - is this still correct? Before going into too much more technical detail on what I've tried so far, can I just ask - has anyone managed to get .ts files playing in Vista x64 Media Center?? Or is it a lost cause and should I just wait for Windows 7 to be released...

Never used Vista x64 Media Center but wouldn't it use direct show filters to play the ts file?

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be that simple. This guy had the same problem, and ended up switching to 32 bit Vista to get it working:

However as that thread is well over a year old... I was hoping there would be a solution to this problem by now!!

It looks like the problem is a lack of suitable 64 bit codecs is the problem (and then getting VMC to actually use them). I've tried the 64 bit codec packs and the registry hacks suggested in that thread with no joy.

I can play the .ts files no problem in Windows Media Player on the same PC, so I know at least the 32 bit codecs are ok.

I'll take it from the lack of replies that's a big NO.
Looks like I'll have to scrounge around for a copy of 32-bit Vista

The thread you links to talks about mkv not working on x64.

I have x264 content mkvs playing on my x64 vista ultimate - is that the answer you are looking for?
Got a copy of the ts file you want to play - I can give it a go.

I'm pretty sure I have never come across any content that I can't play in media centre and media player that I could do on x86 versions of vista

.ts files are mentioned further down in that thread as also being a problem, that's how I came across it.

Just to clarify - you have them playing in Vista Media Centre? I can play the files ok using Windows Media Player, VLC, GB-PVR etc, just not in Vista x64 Media Centre.

If you have got them playing in VMC, it'd be great if you could give my .ts files a shot. I'll record a quick sample. How do you want me to provide you with the file?

If its too big to email then use Mega Upload or one of those similar services

Just in case anyone else was following this thread, Filterer was unable to play the file I sent him in Media Centre. Thanks for trying anyway, I'm now planning to try out the Windows 7 beta this weekend if I get a chance.

Just change file extension from .ts to .m2ts, it works on my Vista x64 Media Center. But I still try to find more convenient solution.
