Hi there,

I've heard some of the advanced video processing on the onboard radeon 3200 IGP is only available to those with phenom processors.
Can anyone here confirm vs perhaps an X2 processor and let me know the differences? All the references to this are for older drivers, have updated drivers changed this at all?

Currently I'm running just the onboard 3200, so maybe the best (and cheapest) option is to perhaps just get another ATI standalone card (4550) and run in crossfire mode so I can get video processing rather than pay several hundred dollars more for the phenom..

I take it they both enable the same video processing capabilities (phenom with 780G vs Standalone).

Or can all of this be managed using Software..?

Thanks,

kano

That's my understanding from reading various reviews, although I'm not sure how much extra processing you actually get. I built my HTPC with a Phenom 8650 anyway, on a Gigabyte 780G board and it's certainly looking lovely!

Is it worth me doing it if I get the same rsult from a $100 card (4550) though?

I assume this will give the same results in terms of video processing options..?
Please correct me if I'm wrong..

Will that work on a 780G board? Looking at http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossfire/charts.html it seems to imply that a 780G is only going to do "Hybrid Crossfire" and only with a 24xx or 34xx card. I didn't seriously look at adding a Crossfire card so can't help you with the latter question.

Nope it won't. After some checking the speed ratings are too different to be usable.

Hmm, just wondering as I don't think the 3200 will have enough grunt when the TMT 3 simHD comes out, the nvidia version requires an 8600gt which is serious overkill for a HTPC unless you're gaming.

Interesting discussion:

Can anyone with later drivers confirm the phenom and 780G combo works with Vector adaptive at 1080p or is it limited to 720P and motion adaptive at 1080p?

Theres extensive discussions on this on mediaportal forum and www.avforum.com (or www.avforums.com) <- i forget.

Phenom adds aditional hardware deinterlacing options over X2

4550 will work on 780G, but wont be cross-fired, the 3200 is just disabled as far as i know.
