Hi team,

Noob question.

I'm looking at getting either a 32" LCD HD Ready or a 32" LCD Full HD tv. My main use would be for Sky Digital tv. (I'm prob gonna get one with Freeview built in).
My folks have a 32" Sony Bravia Full HD LCD and I've noticed the difference in quality due to the non-HD digital source.

My question is would buying either a HD Ready or Full HD change the appearance of the Sky TV Digital or not. Whether the 720p would make SKY look 'better' than the larger 1080p.

I'm interested in your ideas.

As a preliminary answer I'd have go with there being next to no noticable difference. However I believe that only full HD TVs sold now have built in freeview (like the Sony KDL-32V4000, or whatever the Samsung equivalent is).
If you're not getting HD sky there's even less reason to worry. HD Sky is 1080i/same as Freeview TV3 which is only slighly above 720p, and I'm lead to believe that most 720p panels can take up to 1080i inputs.
Anyway at the 32" size I don't think there would be any noticable difference either way.
Again I think only the full HD 32"s have built in freeview. I guess it depends on your budget!

Cheers for that. True I'm not sure either about HD Freeview being on just Full HD. I'll need to look into that and keep an eye out for the specials! :-)

When I was looking at a new TV we couldn't really notice a significant difference between HD ready and Full HD on a 32" TV at normal viewing distances, which for us is like 3 or 4 m from the TV in our lounge. We went with a 32" 720P TV and a PS3 for roughly the same price as a 32" Full HD 1080 TV.

There's a screen size/viewing distance chart around here somewhere that roughly covers the distances at which the resolution differences really become noticeable.

Can anyone comment on what outputs SKY digital boxes have please? Are they hdmi equipped or is it component video out only etc? And are the standard SKY digital transmissions at the SD 576 PAL standard resolution etc? Thanks!
