Hello,

As the title says, in MediaPortal i get around 80% on one core and 30-40% on the other (E2180) when playing HD movies. I was able to watch a 8gb 1080 movie last night but unable with the 14gb. It just kept slowing down.

I have tryed the MPC coded and also the Powerdvd 7 codec.

Both the same.

Surely this CPU is enough... gfx card is a 8600GT.

Any help would be great.

I'm pretty sure the 8600GT has the Cuda extensions, which will allow you to offload a lot of the h264 processing to the GPU. To do this you'll need to enable the hardware processing option in PowerDVD (I think the option is only available on version 7 in the ultra edition - but I'm not 100% sure), or get something like CoreAVC which will allow you to do the h264 using both cores or by using the GPU. I'd suggest getting CoreAVC, it's a relatively cheap purchase for the increase in performance you get from it.

have you got use hardware acceleration option turned on? I have the slower 8500GT and get much lower usage.

Get powerDVD8 ultra, even the trial should work. You can use the powerdvd9 trial too, but the full version for some reason has 3rd party access disabled which makes zero sense.
Get the latest drivers, CUDA isnt necessary though, its DXVA which was around before CUDA, only CoreAVC needs it and that isnt even as good as powerdvd, so forget about that.

Lastly, make sure subtitles are not enabled, powerdvd h264 decoder is set as the h264 codec in the videos section, hardware acceleration is ticked under directshow codecs in mediaportal and that enable hardware acceleration is ticked powerdvd itself.

What operating system are you using? And what renderer are you using (ie VRM9 vs EVR)
Try the movie in MPC-HC, see if that is any different.
I'm guessing your rip is VC-1 or H264?. Some older rips are not DXVA compatible.

You can try this test to see if it is a codec problem.
Download graphedit (standalone program, no need to install it which is good)
Setup MP to run in windowed mode, and turn off always on top.
Play the movie.
Run graphedit and click load remote graph.
Post the screenshot of the graph.
