I've brought a TV in Chile and brought it back to NZ and I cant tune in any channels. I've been told I may need a PAL to NTSC convertor-does anyone know anything about these and does this sound correct? Where can I buy these and how much do they cost? I have also been told that if I brought a Freeview set that this would do the converting as well?

I would give up on planning to use it as a TV here, the tuner is unlikely to be compatable with the NZ broadcast system,

However as you mention you could use it for freeview,if it has an HDMI port on the back use it as a "dumb" monitor , get yourself a freeview HD box and you should be laughing.

BTW what sort of TV is it?

Without knowing the tv its hard to say, it may have a menu to change the tuner to B/G mode but that will only get you the obsolete analog transmissions.

As per other comments, it may be easier to just pick up a PAL set in New Zealand.

What you'll find with your current set is that you may see pictures but in black and white, there will be other issues too..

A NTSC/PAL coverter is of no use to you and there is no way you can use the built in tuner.

A Freeview STB plugged into the componetc/HDMI ports will give you NZ TV.
