Someone may know of a piece of hardware or even pc software that may do the trick for my below problem.

The problem being:

I have my freeview HD receiver connected to my logitech X-530 surround sound system. When I use the optical/coax SPDIF output to connect my freeview HD box to my X-530 system there is always a delay between the sound on the X-530 and the video on my LCD TV.
I realise this is due to the time it takes for the TV to process the picture signal, but what I am wanting to know is if there is some "in-between" piece of hardware that I could put in the SPDIF line to delay the signal that the X-530 gets, thereby fixing the audio/video sync issue. Or maybe there is a DSE kit/homebrew kit that someone has made.

I also have a laptop that has a freeviewHD tuner in it that I could use to watch freeview. Maybe there is some piece of software that I could install on that to delay the digital audio signal to the X-530.

I should also note that, no, my TV doesn't have an HDMI-->SPDIF pass through. Even though this apparently won't give me 5.1 if it's available via HDMI digital audio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is but it isn't cheap. NZ$450 from a kiwi company

You might be cheaper to buy an AV amp of TradeMe as these typically have lip-sync options

Thanks dude. You're probably right.... I need to get a proper AV Receiver. Time to do some research. There are a few topics started that discuss/compare a few AVR's but I might have to start a fresh one.

Can anyone recommend a good mid 1k AV Receiver?

PS: I like your Rig in your signature. Does that handle HD video decoding natively??? Have you thought about testing Win 7 x64 on it? :)

Just a quick question, and a bit OT, but since WHEN did the Logitech X-530's accept a digital (SPDIF) signal as an input...?
I have the speakers myself, and the only inputs mine has are the three 3.5mm analog plugs (and the stereo RCA adapter thingy)...

Ha..... my bad. Thanks dude. I meant Z-5500. I used to have an X-530. I must be living in the past... or I need to get more sleep, either way I can see some retail therapy happening very soon.

I am going to throw this next question out there in the hope that I will get a reply and won't have to start a new thread (naughty, I know):

For $1000-$1500 AV Receivers:

Yamaha or Onkyo?????

That's ok, I was wondering if that's what you meant. I have a set of both speakers myself, so was almost certain you didn't mean X-530)

I just bought an Onkyo SR-606.  It's at JB HI-FI for $996 but talk to them and you will always get a deal, I got mine for $850.

Its fantastic, beats my 2-year old Sony 598 by miles.  Upscaling from all inputs to the HDMI output, Audyssey room correction with the microphone, 4 HDMI's in, 1 out, 7.1 channels and supports the new bluray HD-DTS format.

Instead of having a component, a video, an HDMI and various other cables to my TV I now have just the HDMI and power lead.  The Onkyo takes in my;
WII, (component)
Freeview HD (HDMI) plus SPDIF Optical
Sony VCR (composite Video)
Windows 7 RC MCE machine (HDMI at 1080p)
CD Player
Sony DVD/HDD recorder (Component)
Canon HD Video Camera (HDMI at 1080p)

and upsacles them all, including the video to 1080i to the TV, recognizes the 1080p inputs and passes them through.  Set up was real easy and the Faroujda  Edge upscaler does a great job.  Speaker calibration with the three point system used by Audyssey was super easy.

So its doesnt have the new Faroudji Cinema mode or the 6 point set up of Audyssey Media modes in the new SR-607 but thats a $2000 box.

  • HDMI V1.3a repeater (4 in/1 out, 1080p compatible)

  • HDMI 1080i upscaling powered by Faroujda DCDi Edge

  • Audyssey 2EQ for Loudness Correction

  • By the way my signature line was my first computer, circa 1990 and cost me the best part of $7000.
