Hello folks... I got a few mp4 movies from my mobile but when I tried to play with VLC it asks for a samr codec - where can I get those for Windows?

Theres two solutions.. Rename your mp4 file to 3gp, this should work.. or open it in quicktime. Vlc dosnt have the rights to the codec, Media player cant decode it either, but quicktime has the nesicary codecs built in..

Thanks, it works... But I also wanted to edit the files so obviously need the codec for the other software...

hmm as far as i can tell its a proprietary codec, you wont (easily) find a directshow codec that will bolt into windows to allow you to edit it with pinnacle or whatever your planning on using. You will need something like xillisoft 3gp convertor to convert it to something more friendly that can be edited.. But thats just my take on things from the 10 minutes i spent looking into it

I believe you need QuickTime Pro installed for the system to gain the codec you need,

You can use QuickTime Alternative probably but the legality of it is dubious.
