Hello,

I'm not exactly sure that this is the correct forum, but I am looking at buying some speakers for my PC and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I'm thinking about spending around $100.

Also, my father had some Creative speakers and subwoofer but they died after around two years. Is this normal or is that bad? Should it put me off Creative?

Any help would be appriciated,

I would recommended some logitech ones mabey the x-230 not x-240 as i had a set awhile back and they where defiantly good value for money

the Logitech computer speakers X-530 are a great 5 speaker set with woofer for as low as $90 if you look around,

Is it worth getting more than two speakers (and a subwoofer)? I've only ever had two before so I don't know. I'll be using them for listening to music, playing games, maybe the occasional movie.

for that price it is well worth getting the x-530, a year ago i paid $80 for the x-230 system which is 2 speakers and a woofer(im happy with them) but if i had the choice today i would buy the x-530's no question

just to note that the x-530 don't take 2.1 sound and upmix it to 5.1 so you will have to output 5.1 to get all the speakers to work. I would always go for 5 vs 2 if they are the same quality but if you want really good speakers for music i would recommend the z-2300 you can find them for 200-270

i would first try and get the creativelabs speakers replaced under warranty (consumer guarranty's act) as 2 years is not that long for speakers.....Creative, Logitech and Harmon Kardon are the brands i'd recommend having had the first and the last, and mates having the logitech..Without knowing the environment your listening/gaming in i would suggest...If your mainly:Music:- Headphones, bang for buck they are surpreme-(obviously i'm taking about higher quality bought from hi-fi shops) Grado/Sennheiser etc - take your music along and test on a demo set.Gaming/Movies: 5.1 sound systems (obviously you'll need a sound source that can produce this)

I bought a pair of Logitech Z-10s about a year ago, featuring USB interface and touch sensitive audio playback controls. Unfortunately the playback controls were unreliable, and I had to regularly disconnect the speakers from the mains and reconnect in response to freezes. Because of this, and some other more minor quality problems with other products, I would not buy Logitech again.

I would love to recommend Bose speakers, but they are well out of your price range. Unfortunately you're not going to get anything good for $100.

Mate the first question has got to be what do you want to use the speakers for? Is it for listening to music or playing games or watching a DVD etc?

The 5.1 speakers in that price range require your computer to have 5.1 output. That usually means looking around the back to see if there are 3 headphone style output sockets. In some ways there's not much point going for 5.1 speakers if you don't have this actual output. Also 5.1 speakers need to be placed in front and behind you, which means running some speaker cable and mounting/sitting the speakers appropriately.

I'm guessing that for a given price, you'd probably get better quality buying a 2.1 set over a 5.1 set simply because there are less speaker boxes that way. That said it's totally up to you and as others have mentioned, you'll often do better getting something on special too.

+1 on the Z2300's, they are BRILLIANT.

I bought my last set for $100 :P, but yeah, you would typically pay more for them.

As loud (and clearer) than my mid-range home theater setup, excellent bass, and only lack a little mid range punch at high volume. At normal listening levels they are simply amazing.

Thanks everyone, I bought the Logitech X-530 for around $96, I'm pretty happy with them so far.
