I was about to rush out & get a Sony X Series LCD KLV46X350 down from $4995 to $1900, until I saw this post on LCD vs Plasma

Soooooooooo, as that post dats back to Oct 08 I think, what is everyones thoughts on the best approx 50" Plasma - still the Panasonics? Would like it with FreeviewHD built in, nice to have DLNA capabillities to play music/vids off my mediaserver and the like if all possible? seen it on the latest LCD's but not on Plasma?

So far I have;
TH-P50G10Z G-Series 50” Full HD $3799 from Noel Leemings, but seen it elsewhere for under $3500

but this one looks to me the older of the 2?

DLNA implimentation on most modern TV's is still VERY patchy. If this is a selling point for a TV you need to be aware of some of the limitations of it, particularly in regards to the software you can and can't use. DLNA seems to be like many standards where compatability across different devices isn't quite there yet.

None of the Panasonic Plasma's support this but they are truely fantastic TV's. I'm still a Plasma fan myself.

ha, as with all new tech - I thought that would be the case and had seen bits & bobs on the net about it. Oh well. A nice to have, but definitely not a selling point.

Definitely leaning towards a Panasonic, the TH-P50G10Z it seems.

I've got Panasonic TH-50PZ850 and have been very pleased with it, you can still get them, however I think the new version is out now. I haven't really seen a bad Panasonic Plasma, even the cheaper ones are pretty good. The only draw back I've found with the panasonic plasma is the reflection from direct light, but since I have blinds it wasn't a massive issue.

CASE: Silverstone LC16-M & iMon Remote, PWRSUP: Corsair VX520W, MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R, VIDEO: Gigabyte 8600GT Silent, SOUND: Onboard 8 Channels ALC889A Audio controller , CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400,3.00GHz, RAM:Corsair DDR2-800, 2GB, HDD: SAMSUNG 500 & 750GB + 1.5TB HDD, TUNER: Hauppauge PVR-3000 and 2200, DISPLAY: Sony 55" LCD 1080p SOFTWARE: Windows 7. Also using Microsoft 360 as an extender.

I have owned one of these for 12 months PDP508XG PIONEER 50" am still amazed at the quality, i read heaps of reviews etc and it lived up to them all, i looked at many differant tv's at 720 and 1080 and samsung and panasonic but the pioneer just had the richest picture . these have now been deleted along with all pioneer plasmas but beleive there are still some around, one on trademe for $3100.

I was looking at the Panasonic TH-50PZ850 myself as it is at a good price, but if you look at the "How good is the panasinic g10" you will see the G10 can be got for a very good price. I am waiting to see the V10 which is due here in October (I hope).

Follow up - ended up getting the Panasonic TH-P50G10Z from JB Hi-Fi for $2980 and LOVING it. Thanks to a poster elsewhere on Geekzone, i downloaded his receipt, presented it and got the deal of a lifetime. *apparently* $40 below their cost? but i brought new cordless phones and a Lumix camera to round out the deal - got the Lumix TZ& i think for $680, stoked about that too.

now onto speakers.......

Nice deal. I just got a similar model - the TH-P50S10Z and am loving it. Of course, one month after I buy it I realise there's something I wish it had - 3D capability. Plenty of good 3D games around at the mo but if they launch a 3d channel here, well I guess it's an excuse for an upgrade? Hmmm

yeah pretty stoked with the TV, although for some reason I can only pick up about 6 Freeview channels, even when doing an auto scan and channel update?
Maori, Chinese, Prime, Base and the 2 National Radio stations???
any hints?

Hi Grayskull - where do you live?
Those channels are probably all on the same mux/channel.
Basically if you think of the old channels the freeview channnels are similar except that for example say channel 33 would broadcast 3 or 4 digital freeview channels.

Your UHF aerial is not pointing towards the transmitter?

If you are in Auckland you may need to do a manual tune if you are covered by 2 transmitters - I think the tuners can sometimes get confused by multiple signals.
